How Many Miles On Your Car When Delivered

I should be picking up my M3C in the next 1.5-2 weeks from my dealership. Curious how many miles were on your odometer when you picked it up? Also did they they leave any of the plastic or transport protection on it for you? Trying to determine what is "normal" when I pick it up.

I had 14 miles on mine at delivery.

The only shipping protection that was on my car when I picked it up was the screen protectors on the screens and the little film over the M3 badges on the CF seats. Otherwise all other shipping material had been removed but I also didn't ask that they leave any of it on.

Basically same exact as above. 14 miles, only protective covers left were the pieces of blue film on the seats M4 logo and iDrive screen.

If you want them to leave anything on you can just ask your CA. I requested something be left alone for the PDI and it was honored no problem.

10-20 miles is probably standard for RoRo shipments. My last car I got with 10 miles on the clock, but it was built in America and shipped via train to the dealer, and my sales guy actually drove it back to the lot from the yard.

11 miles. (as a reference point, the car I picked up at the BMW Welt had 4 miles on it)

My dealer always leaves the film on all screens, on M logo on seats, on door sill trim. And does not drill the front bumper for plates - it is only offered when they get the actual plates later.

I leave all the protection film in place until all after-market work is done - PPF, tint, etc.

Why isn't it super low like 0.2-0.3? 14 miles is a lot. Where is that coming from?

My X5 45e had 15 miles and seemed a lot for me.
Other new BMW's that I bought were between 5 and 10 miles which I consider more appropriate.
I don't know if being PHEV had something to do because of battery testings or who knows.

In factory alignment of the suspension takes a few km. Also quality sometimes testdrives the vehicles a few km.
And lastly of course moving the car from A to B.
Everything <50km / 30 miles is not to worry.

Anything around 12 miles for a mass produced vehicle from Europe is pretty normal. For vehicles manufactured in US, its around half of that.

All vehicles are driven around a small test track once final assembly is done. Also vehicles have to be driven on and off ships and other means during transportation.

Maybe this is the reason, X5 is produced in Spartanburg, and I live in Europe. Never thought of that.

I'd let them drive my car from Baltimore if it meant I could get my stop sale lifted. Ok maybe not.

I believe I had 9 miles on mine. I had them leave as many plastics on the car as they could. I guess they had to remove some just to inspect to ensure there was no damage. I work for a different manufacture and with the full wrapping on the car it can hide damage. We had a Mazda that must of had a rock or something bounce up and hit it while it was on the truck. We had to eat it since they signed off on the delivery. I had my car transported straight from the dealer to my PPF guy to have it covered and ceramic coated. Told them to leave it dirty dont even wash it lol

They don't just put the cars on a flatbed to move them everywhere after they roll off the factory floor…

Well they should! Jk. My thought was the only time they need to be driven is on and off the various transports (e.g., trucks, ships, containers) that haul them across the globe. I wouldn't think that adds up to a whole lot--may a quarter mile in the aggregate. Based on other posters, it looks like the main culprit is testing.

Testing, moving on/off the modes of transport to and from the ports, trip to the gas station by the dealership to fill up the tank, and any other misc. movements can all add up. Given so many cars sitting at the ports for the stop sales I'd also wager that some of these are getting out at the far reaches of the port storage areas since they need to pack them in due to several weeks wait to clear them. I'd say anything over 20 would be excessive for a brand new, just rolled off the truck, vehicle.

Watch the video @ 6:40 and then again, at 12:40. Every car gets driven. My car had 18 miles it when it came off the truck, 24 by the time the paperwork was completed, and I hadn't even driven it yet. . G82s come from the Dingolfing Plant, and G80s come from the Munich plant, so they have different test tracks.

My car, just like ChicagoFans, was at the Oxnard port, in SoCal. The cars are taken off the RORO (Roll on Roll off, ship) and driven to the VPC. The VPC by map is at least a 1/4-1/2 a mile from the port. Then it gets to the yard, and moved around. My car was parked in 5 different bays before the stop sale was completed, and it was loaded on the truck, for delivery.
