Add to that; that the dealership will not care about any modification unless you are asking them to fix the damage caused by your mod for free.

In the very, very rare instance that a mod caused damage to another car component, you should not take the car to the dealership and ask them to fix it. The chances of this scenario are very close to zero, I would not worry about it.
Good points. It's the "cat and mouse" issue that I am concerned about, however if these types of. What prompted my concern was the post I attached, which was posted in a review of the ManHart module. In that post, the author states "My advice is to deactivate the clean error option on JB4 in any case". Is there a consensus on this? Would this eliminate the possibility of leaving any digital footprint? Just curious.

It's impossible to say without having access to BMW software, but out of hundreds of thousands of tuned cars with Jb4, you'd be pressed to find 5 with a similar issue.

Like everything else in life, nothing is 100% guaranteed. The odds of running into issues are very close to zero. If you are not comfortable with these odds, you are not ready to tune your car yet, and that's okay; the vehicle has more than enough power stock.

By cat and mouse it means BMW makes a change, then tuners make a change to work around, then BMW makes a change, then tuners make another change to work around, and so forth.

No one here is going to know the real details of how any of this works. BMW won't share how they detect and tuners won't share how they avoid detection.

Newb questions. I see all the videos on how to install the JB4, but I dont see anything about how to load the files once installed and what each map means. I see there are a ton and each map seems to do something different. Any info on this?

When you pull up the JB4 app and it's connected to your vehicle, I believe you press Settings and then press Map. The maps on the next page should say what they are and required fuel (91, 93, e30, etc). Verify map change on the Gauge layout screen.

Dr. Fat Hands is juuuuust about to attempt installation. JB4 has been staring at me for 3 months. going to order intake first. Thinking BMS top-mount. since oem has to be removed, might as well.

Sorry if these are floating around somewhere, but could people post pictures of where/how you placed the circuit box and bluetooth kit?

I plan to... only based on the fact that I will be able. I wish I could see into the future and determine how often ill run corn through it and if it is necessary to purchase a flex fuel kit.

I will when I install. I plan to double-side tape it inside the plastic cover.

This is a must (flexfuel kit), if you ask me.

E85 accuracy varies from pump to pump. Then add the tedious task of keeping track of how much of what you have on the tank. And I believe the recommended usage of e85 is 3:1 Run 1 full tank of premium after running 3 tanks of e85mix; they say is good for the fuel system components (just fyi).

Id assume that running a little through it to see if the results are worth it wouldnt be too bad... if e85 is a world of difference, ill buy the kit. if not, seems like it might be a hassle.

iirc, JB4 measures octane...

i swore i wasnt going to mod this car. lol.

Here's how mine is installed. I normally have a zip tie around the jb4 box buy took it out to rewire the flex fuel kit wire to it. I need to reattach the zip tie.

Only if you fill up the whole tank with ethanol then it shouldn't matter. But if you think you have e50 in there don't run the e50 map, go with something lower to be safe.

my approach would be to run the most aggressive map for 93 octane and when that is empty, most aggressive map with a 1/4 tank or so of e85. id make the decision pretty quickly, i think.

Couldn't agree more. I had a tune with 93 FBO hellcat and also a tune for e85. Only had to swap the pulleys pending fuel. I never used the 93 pulley ever haha.

i'm so flipping angry. finally got everything installed (figured out the trick with the tmap sensor too) and i'm still getting the same errors. drivetrain issue, chassis stabilization issue, and no bluetooth connection. i'm 99% i have a defective unit and am so very excited that i get uninstall it yet again. debating if it's even worth asking for a new unit vs. a refund and keeping it stock.
