It’s a curious thing. I used to think it was irrelevant and just a distraction until I got it on my F80 and use it all the time. Then I understood why people love it and why it’s a must have.

Then I switch to drive our P-car and I don’t miss it one bit. Weird.

I feel exactly the same about it, in some cars I like and in other I find it annoying but I never miss it when it's not there.

Unrelated question - why do you call ie a P-car instead of a Porsche?

Alright peeps, after seeing them in person M3 and M4 both with executive pkg, I have decided to add to my build. Lol. Guy was nice enough to start the car and was able to peak inside. If I didn't see it person, I would not have been sold on it.

What was it then that swayed you in the decision? How does it compare to the old HUD? I'm trying to decide as well if I want it so any information would be helpful. Thanks!

Laser light. The blue prong for the laser really looks nice on the G80. Even during day, as far light at night, not sure if it will be brighter than LED. For the HUD it looked similar to F80.

Not sure why the HUD is so important option to so many, to me is a complete distraction and useless feature, wont want it even if it was free.

It's actually less of a distraction because it keeps your eyes on the road. Otherwise you have to look down at the speedometer or over at the navigation. Sure, both briefly but still you can keep your eyes on the road with the HUD. Not at all a useless feature.

Do we know yet if the motors and associated HW for the remote trunk are deleted if the Executive Package is not chosen? If so this could be a decent weight savings.

Not sure if I get what you mean, but these function is only available on the X cars as far as I know...on M3/4 its just the tailgate that can open / close automatically

They laser lights look very cool, but don't know what you mean by „not sure if it will be brighter than LED"

The lights are full LED lights on normal light / high beam, laser only is an addition for very dark environments, it only extends the high beam with a laser spot but not all the time. So the visibility is double than with default high beam.

But as in the US you can't have the extra range because of regulations, probably in a US car the laser is turned off completely. So for US cars it looks like it is only for the „look" at the moment...at least as long as your regulations don't change or you code it (if possible)

I think you are right. I misunderstood a photo on BMY build page. I thought this picture was the actual look of the car. I can see it is "X" series.

Exec for sure- HUD is a must for me and why not the luxury items as a bonus. A lot of goodies for less than 5% of the MSRP

In the US we get watered down version of the European laser light. I hope we can code it to get the full effect of the euro laser.

Yes but it only shows.... what the speed limit and the speed you are going , come on...... why pay so much for this. You still will be taking you're eyes off the road for much better things too look at and controls on your dashboard.

No it doesn't, it shows a multitude of information. Your knowledge is nearly as bad as your grammar.

"The information that the Head-up Display projects directly into the BMW M driver's field of vision includes data on speed, engine speed, shift points and a gear indicator. If you aren't on a race track, navigation information can also be displayed. Symbols indicate when the next turning should be taken, what type it is and what distance you are from it. Not to be underestimated: speed limits are also displayed. The driver can select exactly what information they want the Head-up Display to show"

Correct. It will also show navigation and media information. If I'm listening to Spotify off my phone via BT it will show the track names as I forward through them.

M-HUD with RPMs and gear info is what makes the HUD worthwhile. Regular series cars don't implement this well but F8x and presumable G8x does. I don't care about nav and phone or media info in the HUD. I currently don't have a HUD in my X3MC and I don't miss it, but it is a nice feature if it's in the exec pack. Surprisingly the power tailgate on my M340i is really nice to have as well so I would want it on an M3.

I'm just the opposite - I could care less about the M HUD with the RPMs, but I guess that's why it's nice they have the options to please all [most] of us. I might feel different if I ever took it on the track.

Agree, seeing the rpm on track without looking down is really a good feature
