Just curious in the case where the rubbing is bad and has ruined the powder coating, will the springs be able to be swapped? To avoid rust, etc. in the future.

I wouldn't worry about it. If anything, a small bit of touch-up paint can be used since it's a very small area.

First, thank you Sean for your stand up customer service and standing behind your products. I had AST 5100 coilovers on my F80 and they were great. I just sent an email and am looking forward to getting this fixed! THANK YOU AGAIN SEAN!!!

Nice!! I have the springs sitting in the box still. Are there any pics of normal placement vs wrong placement I can compare to see if my springs are ok? Thanks again

Thanks for your patience while we investigated this occurrence on the AST lowering springs for part # ASTLS-21-080 & ASTLS-21-182, for the 21+ BMW G8x M3/M4.

After testing we have determined the noise is caused by the black isolation tube being placed incorrectly during assembly of the front springs. After performing a spot-check on inventory, we were able to determine that some (not all) of the spring isolators were incorrectly positioned on the spring and causing coils to make contact and make noise. As a part of testing, we removed the spring isolator which as a result caused the noise to become much louder, pinpointing the spring isolator as the source of issue. On progressive springs, the progressive part of the spring coils are designed to touch and the spring isolator helps to remove any noise from this, as well as serves a dual purpose of tuning the spring.

After inspecting our spring inventory located in the AST/Moton HQ, we noticed some (not all) of the kits have the tube placed incorrectly which would explain why this isn’t impacting all sets worldwide..

The good news is we have shipped over 600 kits globally, and this affects a very small percentage of installed kits (less than 1%), which would explain why all AST lowering spring kits are not expecting this issue.

Once we placed the spring isolator in the correct area of the spring, the noise was completely eliminated. The fix does not require the springs to be removed from your impacted vehicle, just remove the wheel and you can access the spring to remove and click on the new spring isolator – which can be completed in about 10-20 minutes. We will be providing new spring isolators to all impacted customers with instructions on how to make the update, and all in existing inventory has already been inspected to ensure this is not an issue in the future.

If you are impacted please email us sales@astsuspension-na.com and we will get a new spring isolator set and instructions out to you immediately.

Thanks for your patience and understanding in this matter. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly.
Awesome! Thanks so much!

Can you please post pictures here. I just bought a set and before I install them I would like to make sure they're good. You have time as my m3 has been stuck in qc since November 30,2021 😡.

Here is my passenger one before install - it looks okay to me, but I don't know what its supposed to be. The opening seems to face the inside of the spring the entire way around, yet mine creaks.

If I had to guess you don't want the top two coils to touch. I would slide the rubber insulator more to the top of the spring.

Well looks like I'm late, but I had the wheel off to put on my spacers and snapped a pic of the spring. You can see the rubbing to the left of center. It appears to be the mentioned issue.

In the same boat. Anyone have pics of what the isolators are supposed to look like in the correct location?

Sean is active on this thread, and he is getting back via email (in time). He even said he'd be posting more info later this.

I wouldn't worry about an individual response just yet. They are actively working on the resolution, documentation, and i'm sure also trying to figure out supply chain issues to produce the updated isolators.
