The car that is inferior to them both is the RS4.

It's got the best hidden 450PS ever and feels very soft to drive. Obviously that will suit some people.
No reason to ignore you, I don't personally own but there's too many friends and family with these cars if I decide I want to drive an M3/M4 or C/E or S63 + more for the next 2 weeks straight I can and I have. I'm a car lover so my opinion wasn't coming from a bias standpoint.

Closest I could find and by no means comprehensive, but better than watching paint dry...

My initial thought was to keep my F80, I think the new Alpina B3 looks amazing, but unfortunately will not be available to me. As of now I am between a new stripper base 992 911 or Taycan.

I looked at 992's yesterday on dealer lots and all had $124k+ sticker prices. Easily $40k+ more than a G8X that'll likely be faster. Nice cars, but that 379 HP wasn't an attractive selling point, nor was the lack of a 6MT. I wouldn't pony up for any Porsche other than a 6MT GT3.

Numbers are only half the story, some of us care more about the driving experience. Whether the price difference is worth it is up to the customer.

As do I, but I don't consider the upgrade to a non-GT model as being worth it.

If you want the BEST driving experience, especially if you are going to spend time at the track, the Porsche GT4 is very hard to beat. Many that own or have driven the GT4 and the GT3 often find the GT4 to be much more fun on the track (even if the GT3 is slightly faster).

I've owned each iteration of the M3 in succession (E30-F80) and the F80 is my last. Instead of holding out for a G80 (the looks ugh), I ended up buying a 991 GT3 and so far it's been a blast. I did toy with getting a 981 (2016) Cayman GT4 which was also fun to drive, but hearing the GT3 screaming at 9000 RPM had me sold.

That said, I would have purchased a new 718 Spyder over my GT3 had the wait time not been a year. I figure I can drive the GT3 for a couple of years and get the convertible later once they are available on the secondary market.

You really should take one out for a test drive, even the base 992 is a lovely, lovely car. But as you say the cost is on a different level and the G8X will as the 992 offer a lot that the other car doesn’t. Porsche can’t match the value of an M car, any M car whether it’s an M2, M3, M5, X3M or X5M.

I drove one with my wife mainly because it is available and I needed the car in 2020. Covid has change that so now I’m all in on the G82. As good as the 992 it’s price doesn’t make sense for us vs the G82

Yeah, it would definitely be an ordered car, negotiated 7-10% off, not many frills. 379HP should be enough for my use. If I go the Taycan route I would try to negotiate something similar on a car without many options and after federal rebate, it should be close. I think for those of us who purchased an F80 the solution to make up the price difference is to just hold the F80 a little longer than we would have. I typically would own a car for 3 years, it has been 4.5 now, and pushing the F80 to 6 years of ownership should translate to some savings. I only put 5K miles a year on it, so not much lost in value by holding it.

379hp is plenty, people have to remember at 3300lbs, the car doesn't need as much horsepower to produce good numbers (base carrera can likely get under 4 to 60, plenty quick for 99% of people) and still handle really well and feel super comfortable, and you could always go CPO low mileage too. With Porsche its the driving experience that is priority, not the numbers.

The difference is well over $100k in Australia.
Base 992 with no options () is $260k.
F80s launched around $150k and were around $125k by the end of the run.
I expect the G80 will be around the same.

the more I look at the recent BMW models the more I like my M3. I am probably going to keep the car and when the time is right add a 911. I like simplicity and "form follows function idea", neighbor just got a brand new 911 S looks so good from every angle.... one of the few cars remaining that is not made to look like a Frankenstein monster, they hold their value well too.

I was leaning heavily towards and looking forward to the next generation C63 AMG coupe, but now Mercedes is not bringing any of these coupes to the US. That may force me back towards BMW. ☹️

a 911 is more expensive but it also holds its value much better than an M3; just something to keep in mind

Exactly this. I wouldn't worry about the 379 HP on these cars based on power:weight .

My 991.2 4S has about 425 stock and silly quick and agile (sub 3.4) but its not all about that, more about the complete driving experience.

These engine have a lot of room for modifications, just not much room to do it.

Totally that. I love mine from all angles (even in my conservative Agate grey color).

That’s what, ~$30k depreciation in 2y and 8.5k miles? That’s more than my last M3’s has depreciated in 4y and 40k miles. So for the 911 holding value better, maybe in percentage but in absolute dollar value?
