Ice Driver vs. Vinyl Design Yellow DRL

This is a review post for 2 distributors of the yellow DRL modules for G80/G82. I bought both sets using my own money and was a little tired of members concluding that one was better than the other. Lots of just trust me bro being thrown around which was definitely not good enough for me.

Brightness
Here are the brightness comparisons between the yellow modules and OEM. The pictures were taken with an a7iii at 1/100 F6.3 ISO500 35MM with a ND64 filter. This means that the camera is taking in the same amount of light for each picture it takes so you should visually see differences in brightness. This is the best way I have of comparing brightness between them because I am not going to take the time and money needed to bring these to a lab to measure lumens.

I personally think that Vinyl Designs is slightly brighter

Modules
Here are pictures of the modules themselves. I don't know much about electronics so I have no comments.

Notes
When I ordered Ice Driver, one of the modules came dead. They immediately fixed it and sent over a replacement pretty quickly. After about 200 miles, a different module failed. I gave up and went back to OEM. I just installed Vinyl Designs so I don't know how long they'll last. I'll update the thread if they do fail.

No, I am not going to do this with Motorsport+ modules because I think they're overpriced.

Thanks for the post. I want to go the Ice Driver route, but I'm hesitant due to fairly common reports of units DOA or shortly after install. Sure, they seem to have good CS, I just don't want to have to deal with swapping out bad units all the time. Definitely going to watch this to see how you fair with the Vinyl Designs.

Been running vinyl designs rgbw kit for a bit over a year now without an issue plus Jerry is a stand up guy. Would highly recommend his kits.

Great comparison post!

I had the Vinyl Design version on my G80 and had no issues for the time I owned it with them installed and as far as I know, the now current owner of the car still has them installed and running without any issues.

I get emails as to how we determine what Led is brighter ? We use a tool called a lux meter which accurately measures LED not regular lighting . Using a cell phone or camera doesn't actually measures it correctly but a lux meter will because it uses different angles in a way to see the brightness of the LED and I test these leds all the time and manufacturer trust my input as I can test and see how bright or any soft fault codes if any . So final conculsion are Vinyl Designs 2 single leds brighter ??? YES they are by 15% from the standard single color led out there on the market and there's alot out there . I do more R & D then anyone else on this subject it amazes me as to how vendors say they're better then me but I never ever have fired back it's fair game just gotta know how to play It .... hope this sheds some light and thank you to all my new and old customers we sold out of yellow DRL in 2 days for a total of 37 units we got more comming ....

Thanks. Yea I actually bought ice driver stuff but never installed. The quality disnt look great and I didn’t want to go through the effort seen that they fail in two months. Pictures of vinyl design look a little better.

It is a generic Shopify link. Sure, it doesn't look the most professional but the guy seems like he cares about LEDs. At the end of the day, do you want to buy from a person who is great at creating websites or do you want to buy from someone who knows about LEDs? He is the only one in the community that I've seen create a custom harness and coding walkthrough to make the CSL tail lights work.

Nothing on the guy, as long as it's legit, it's fine. Just assuming based on the URL but if it's legit, it's legit.

This is not my only product ,I created a Detail Spray infused with SI02 Technology Called Hybrid Glow and sold more then the Single color LED or the RGBW Color change kit in the first year Shopify has help our Sales increase well over 350% yeah I could have had someone build me a site but I rather do it myself .

Just the LED Boards - Im testing a few as to fitment - 2 already did not pass quality control ........ Misalignment of the mounting bolts - Amount of play when seated - waiting on the Other Manufacturer to see how they fit -
