Bolt is T55.

Thanks for the help.
Thanks for sharing. Can you send me pictures of the cap upside down and the center bolt without the cap?

Thanks for confirming the bolt size. I just ordered a T55 bit.

Interesting looking cap!! I wonder what the purpose of this additon is?

The t55 bit arrives tomorrw. So i will resume the project when it arrives.

Did the center bolt give you any issues coming off or going back on? What torque figure did you use to torque it back on?

Any other surprises during the rest of the installation?

Did the car throw any codes or warnings once you wrapped everything up and connected the battery back on?

Understand that this was an i4 M50 steering wheel install, not of a G8x. I ask technical questions in the M3/M4 forum just because other forums simply suck for really technical answers.

I used an impact gun to remove bolt, 50lbs/ft to tighten. Battery was not disconnected - normally I wait for the car to go to sleep and then do the wheel swap (not recommended). I expect a "hands on driving" warning (HOD) soon as I have not installed an HOD emulator yet. But no warnings so far after a short drive.

Your results may vary.

Carismo’s wheel looks decent, but I’ve always hated the bulky look of the G8X steering wheel. After having the jqwerks steering wheel hub + Sparco L360 - I can never go back.

It’s certainly not for everyone, but I’m strongly considering keeping it on at all times and not just track days. Who needs a steering wheel airbag anyway (I joke, of course)

Carismo. My car doesn’t have heated steering wheel. I’m not sure if Carismo offers that as an option.

I have to agree. It is bulky although slightly slimmer than stock due to the shape.

Yours looks nice and sporty but i dont know if i can live without all the wheel functionality more so than loosing the airbag.

That’s the beauty of the jqwerks hub - it retains all of the OEM functionality except for the heating. There isn’t a thing I could do on my OEM/Carismo that I can’t on the jqwerks. ACC for Comp owners also works: https://europeanautosource.com/colle...w-g8x-m2-m3-m4

Additionally, egress is made a bit easier after taking the steering wheel off is a plus since I have carbon bucket seats and am a bigger guy. Niche thing: my 2.5 year old daughter absolutely loves being in the drivers seat with me and getting in with her while the wheel is off makes for such an easier ingress. Again, niche and won’t apply to 99.9% of G8X owners, but it’s the small things that count.

The only downsides: the indicator stalk/wiper stalk being further away from your finger tips. On the OEM/CD wheel, the stalks are closer to the beginning of your fingers but now they’re at the actual tips depending on your hand size. It took me a few days to adjust my seat and hands to it but I’m perfectly comfortable now. Lastly is the perception, if that matters to you. Many will look at it like it’s some cheap steering wheel and call it ricey/JDM-esque. To each his own but the smaller diameter wheel from Sparco/OMP/Momo/etc. will make for a much better and precise experience on track at the expense of looks (which I disagree with anyway). The OEM/CD wheel is comically large (my previous car was a GT3, life long M owners are used to it by now) and this upgrade to a smaller diameter that looks better on top of everything else makes it a mod I’d do all over again.

Got mine from an Aliexpress seller. He was able to customize it from the perforated leather, the silver stitching, and the single center silverstone colored 12 o'clock marker.

I decided not to choose heated steering wheel as I live in Miami.

In total I paid about 400$

Photos included of wheel and interior through the BMW 3D Brochure as the car is not delivered yet.

Do you mind sharing what seller you used? I have Silverstone interior but I would like the M colors and heated option. I live in Virginia.

Looks good. Also looking for a link to your seller.
I think I've found it! I'll let bcherdak post it if he wants to though.

The best thing to do is contact the guy on AliExpress and ask for his WhatsApp!

I bought an aftermarket steering wheel but my car has ACC. The new steering doesn't have the pressure sensor.

Is it possible to buy an aftermarket steering wheel and keep ACC?

You bought a wheel that didn't support acc, these ones here do if you pick the option https://cvrbonized.com/products/full...l-bmw-g-series

Theyre thinner where yours hands sit, but feel super solid. The sculpted grip feels better than the stock wheel.

There are ACC/HOD emulators that can be installed in aftermarket wheels that keep ACC fully functional.

This is what I installed in my custom wheel: https://bimmer8.com/products/bmw-hod-emulator

That's awesome. So with that module, the car won't yell at me anymore for not touching the steering wheel while ACC is on?

Also, did you have any issues figuring out the toggle switches?

Thanks!

This HOD emulator includes detailed instructions on how to set it up for your particular car options.
