Knocked mine out in under 5 mins, start to finish based on the great tips in this thread. The "pops" are a bit sketchy to hear despite nothing being visually wrong upon removal.
Only thing I'll contribute that I used in addition to the typical plastic trim tools most of us have, is this tool from OG. It definitely came in handy. It's thinner than standard plastic trim tools, and finished very well so it's unlikely to scratch anything (unless you're very careless). https://www.obsessedgarage.com/produ...141e99c7&_ss=r |

I have an extra M3 comp console insert badge. Bought 1, was told multi weeks to wait, bought the 2nd one from paddleshifters and it came it super quick.
Did other mods tonight, alcantara knee pads, LED puddle lights.. Could not get the insert badge to budge. So I figured I'd blame it on something other than my mechanical ineptness.. Whiskey and trim tools, 120 seconds and it was out. YEA!! |

someone needs to make a simple clear sticker of this. Then we can just apply it to the existing blank piece.

Installed mine last night. Got mine from Paddleshifters along with the CSL strut brace. Took about 5 minutes; 4 minutes to put down double thick painters tape on the edges and a little gentle prying.

Got mine installed today and it only took 5 minutes.
I put down 3 layers of tape and pryed in the order shown in the attached pics. |

Got my control panel out today and waiting on my M4 piece. Even with a few layers of painters tape I did nick up the silver trim a bit. Is that silver trim replaceable?

I am curious about the silver trim as well. Looks like it is the M4 equivalent to this part (the part below is not it):
https://paddleshifterz.com/product/o...-31-9-475-061/ Cannot seem to find an M4 version of this after a while searching. Let's just say mine didn't come out as cleanly as I'd have liked even with a ton of painters tape.

Managed to mine today on my UK G82!
Thanks to all the comments in this thread, it was fairly simple. I put a fair amount of tape on to protect the trim and even used some folded paper behind areas where I was applying most force… I didn’t want any damage to that trim! I ordered the part from autoid in the uk which was then sent from BMW themselves. I used the new part and looked at where the plastic lugs were to gauge where it needed the force applied. First pops were along the top like others have mentioned and then the last in the bottom corner. |

PITA even thought it’s simple. Took me ~15 minutes, had 3 minor heart palpitations, and slightly dented the silver trim due to tape negligence.
My advice; go slower than I did, use tape, and go as deep as you can with your pry tool on the top left corner before prying upwards. Get it to the point where it’s just popping up and then work on the right side. After popping the right side up a bit, go back to the top left and try prying again. (If the top part is raised too much it’ll wedge the bottom piece in.) Mine gave after 3 tries/resets. You really have to finesse it for it to come out easily. |

Just want to add my experience.
It was a pain in the ass without tools, I was fiddling with it for an hour before I decided to just go buy some cheap tools for 7 bucks on amazon. Once the trim tools came in it took 5 minutes to change out the part. 4 layers of 3M tape and quite a lot of force, like everyone else I pryed from the top and then to the side. Damaged the upper black piece a little bit but nothing noticeable unless you specifically look for it. Also want to thank everyone for posting their experience, really helped a lot! |

Has anyone tried to drill two small holes in the blank piece? I would imagine you could use a coat hanger to hook through the two holes and apply a good amount of force to pop it out. Less risk in damaging trim pieces with this approach.

I think that's also a good idea. could also drill a screw into it and pull up with a pliers.

Had my center console removed to install the center console lights so I just did a simple swap to the M Badge.
It’s a lot easier to just remove the center console and go from the bottom. All that taping and prying would’ve caused me anxiety. 😂

I have a new, never installed M4 Comp panel that was gifted to me. I have a G 83 and can't use, as my top up/down switch is in that panel. PM me if you're interested.

15 min to tape, 1 min to remove without a single scratch. I placed 5 layers of painters tape then a layer of double side tape for the trim tools to get tractions. Came off with so little effort by following the picture about of 1, 2 and 3.
