Window tinting gone wrong

Took my less than 3 week old M4 to the tint shop today and unfortunately had it butchered by someone who clearly takes no pride in his work. To add insult to injury he couldn't even tint the front windows.

So I left the car and returned to find him trying to do the job without removing the door card, he forced the card out from the top to pull the rubber weather seal out, in doing this he bent all the metal and exposed a sharp corner. Rather than admit this he told me the windows wouldn't work with tints due to the seal interference around the door mirror.
At this point I hadn't noticed any damage and thanked him for being honest, I'd rather be told it can't be done than getting a half arsed install. I give him some money anyhow for trying, go to drive out and notice the leather at the top of the door sill has damage and show him. I was fckin raging so left and said I'd be in touch. On the drive home I could see something wasn't right with the way the door sat, got home to my garage and discovered the damage was a lot worse than expected. He's basically bent the metal within the rubber all over the place, worst of all the top of the door card is now deformed as he tried to do the job by forcing it out the way.
Called him and you don't have to imagine how brutally I laid out the situation and what has to happen next.
Been to the dealer and I'm awaiting the price for replacing the door card, seal the the labour costs.
But wait, the story gets better. The parts manager recognised me and said "did this not happen before…"
So here is the other part of the story:
In 2018 I collected my new F82 individual Nardo grey M4. After a couple of weeks I took it to a tint shop (not the same one)
I collected it later that day and paid, on the drive hone I could see the both doors has issues with the rubbers seals. Upon inspection I quickly discovered something serious was wrong, removed both door cards and the seals were all deformed and torn. Then I discovered the led light tunnels were snapped, HK speaker grills damaged and worst of all….. the tint film was covered in cut marks and scratches.

This morning when I dropped off the car I told the installer this story, it was my way of giving him the ideal excuse to maybe admit if he was out his depth. I told him how it ruined the full experience for me as the F82 was brand new.
I fitted all the mods to my new car the day I collected it, Fck I even built a garage so that I could.
Why, because I'm sick of idiots who don't respect my shit. So I'll do it myself within reason.
I don't know what the point of this rant is, and I know it's a first world problem but hey these people know how to undo German perfection in minutes

Does anyone know the correct install process for front tints on the G82, did you maybe watch it getting done on yours?

It's why I don't own any deadly weapons or work in law enforcement.

Reading your post and seeing the pictures is giving me anxiety.

Hope it gets resolved amicably…

Ouch. Good luck with that. Did you really need tint that bad?

Shouldn't matter either way if I needed it. Could have been any modification, I didn't need the car that badly but I wanted it…

Tints are essential as per Covid protocol.

Geez, sorry to see that.

Not sure why this installer pressed the issue so much, especially when the damage is so blatant.

If you can't do the job or are uncomfortable doing it, there's no shame in saying that and refer you somewhere else or just move on to the next customer.

Ouch. Sorry to hear (and see that). Seems like there may be a shortage of competent tint installers in Scotland! Only issue I had with mine was the guy (who I've used a few times before) cut out for the 3rd brake light.

I was not at all happy with how it looked. Made him redo it and the tint now fully covers the rear windshield.

Good luck OP. That's not going to be cheap to fix.

Thanks and your 100% correct regarding him pushing forward when he was out of his depth.
In every situation like this you reach a point (sometimes before you start) where you have the option to be honest with yourself and walk away in the knowledge you were doing the right thing.

Thanks. Yeah Scotland is good for some things but having lived and worked in the states I can honestly say from experience the standard of work you guys get is always more consistent and of a higher standard.
And yes, probably a £1700 bill (not sure what that is in dollars)

Thats the way it should be. This guys job is only tinting, I checked with a couple of people who had used him and they had no complaints.
when I arrived he mentioned he had tinted the same car before because he asked if it was lowered, apparently the other car was and they had trouble getting it up the ramp into the shop. Then when I called him tonight he said it was his first time doing one of these cars.
His BS in piling up quick, will need wings to stay above it

Nothing more to say than that sucks....

No idea the circumstances, but in this new COVID world we all live in, many folks seem to think they can do a half-assed job and get away with it.

Don't even want to drive the fckin thing, it'll just piss me off when I get in it

Thanks.
Yes your correct with Covid IMO.
The more I think about what he's done the less I understand it. Couldn't imagine doing that to someone's property no matter what the cost of it is.

Tell me about it. Maybe If I took something that's special in his life, something he's worked for years to achieve and waited so long for and treated it with the same attitude and neglect he might feel how I feel when I discovered the extent of disrespect he showed to my property.
When I returned early and looked at how he had bent the door seal assembly round at a right angle I knew I was in trouble.
It wasn't a case of has he damaged the car, more like how much.

If I was doing this to cars, I would just close my shop. There is no reason the M4 windows can't be tinted with the door panels intact.

100% agree.
However I've realised tonight now I've calmed down (a little) why he couldn't do it.
Because he bent the window seal vertically at a right angle next to the wing mirror he deformed the metal within the rubber seal. This made it spread out creating a pinch point against the glass. So when he's applied the film (he tried 3 times) and puts the window down the interference is delaminating the film off the glass.
There was no going back from that and his final suggestion was he'd have to take the glass out.
WTF!
By that time I had one thing on my mind, get the car put back together, leave and find the inevitable damage later. I wouldn't have handled the situation the way I'd wanted if I'd stayed any longer. I know myself to well.

Wow. I have never in my life of tinting 40+ cars... seen anything like that before. I think door cars are close to 2K each? Plus you have full leather. What a nightmare. Id lawyer up and sue him for not only the damage, but lost time from work too.

He should have insurance for this. Hopefully he does! Im very sorry to see this OP.
