Take 2022 allocation or wait for 2023?

Dealer just called to let me know my allocation is ready to be ordered but confirmed it'll be a 22 with July/August delivery.

I'm thrilled to get mine but was kinda hoping it was a 23 in case any changes and to have the new year rather than the one going out.

Anyone know if there will be any changes, and would you take it or pass it to the next guy and wait for a 23?

I put my order in 2 wêeks and waiting for allocation. If they are letting me know it is my turn I take 2022. For me, I am not waiting for more. But if you have time 2023 would be nice. How long it takes for your allocation?

Is your order an M3 or M4? Is this the first time you've received a production number?

Based on the 23MY M3 it looks like the iDrive8 is the main change, no confirmation on M4 but many are speculating it will not get the same "LCI" changes as the M3, since the 4-series line doesn't get it's updates until 24MY.

Some users shared the 23MY build sheet confirming iDrive8 in this thread:

With the anticipated changes(as in the below thread), i would take the MY22 allocation. Also one can expect a significant MSRP update for the next MY as well.

Take the '22 and place an order for a '23. See how the market is, very likely you won't lose anything even then.

If they will let you wait a month for august allocation and 2023 I'd take that. I like ID 8 better

Used car market is on a decline from its peak. Profitable flips like those might be a thing of the past pretty soon.

I'll gladly take your allocation if you end up wanting to wait for the 23

I'll even give you my spot which is almost guaranteed a 23

Bird in the hand... you can always put your name on a 23 list and make up your mind later

23 for m3 has awful changes, no hvac buttons, ugly screens. M4 no changes for 23. I would take the 22 over 23 for sure.

With all the delays we haven seen I will take the last car of MY22 if you are able to get a production number and VIN. I feel some times is related to luck that your production order hits 150 and you get a VIN. You can get a 2023 allocation some time soon, but that can be delayed due to know reasons. In this blog we see people that got their production number since last year and they are still waiting for a car.

I will take the first car available no matter if is a MY22

I ordered my 22 on July 14th of 2021. If they stick to the same time frames, the 23s should be offered by then.

Yep, but they have a production number already so it's for sure a 22 unless I gamble and let the next guy grab it…then it could be a month or longer just to order

MY23 production begins in July and dealers might receive those allocations a month of two before.

I hope most people think this way about the MY2023 and drop out of the running so I get my M3 that much sooner!

The curved display doesn't bother me, and want the latest ID 8 software, but I have to admit I'm not looking forward to the anticipated price increase.

I'm not sure any guarantee of delivery would be what I would base my decision on. The G82 I ordered in October, built in November, is still not on a ship (last I heard a few weeks ago was that it was still waiting on transit to port).

Get the prod number. Change build at 112 status (add buckets or something) and you'll be pushed to my23 and make another change if needed. That production number is gold.

This is awful advice.

OP, there's no chance you'd get this car in July. Ask them what your build week is because there must've been some sort of miscommunication.

Good choice going for 22; let's hope your dealer has definitive gen there regarding MY23.
