Some get allocation in a matter of weeks whereas others are waiting for months. It depends on how long is the dealer waitlist and how quick they get an allocation. Its pure luck.

Also this platform is almost entering its third MY.

People are on multiple wait lists. I was #6 on one of the waitlists as of 2/28 and am now #1 on the same wait list... presumably because they got some allocations and also some people must have dropped out.

Yeah im just wondering if being 1st in line at that dealer vs. 4th in line at my preferred dealer isn't too big of a difference considering everyone in front or me at my preferred dealer is ordering a standard color. In either case I'm waiting for MY23 start of production anyway due to it being an individual order.

Mostly a matter of dealers not getting allocations as of late because BMW can't even seem to build the cars they gave out allocations for.

After playing the C8 and Z06 allocation game with in-state and the big dealerships back East (1 or 2 per year vs 250 at large lot), I was still clueless about the M allocations. Local dealer told me "you'd get the next one, maybe 6 to 9 months, $5000 refundable deposit" and I was 100% going to do it. Meanwhile I messaged every dealer within 750 miles or so, and one told me the M4 may be an option, but there were 2 or 3 in front. I ignorantly said "no thanks, I am #1 or #2 at my local dealer, ciao." The much-bigger dealer basically said "we're much bigger, you may get one in a month being our #2 instead of waiting indefinitely being your podunk dealer's #1" and sure as heck, 4 weeks later had my VIN, and it's on a vessel as of yesterday. The local dealer still has no timeframe on an M4 let alone the much "rarer" M3.

I'm not even sure what to say to this besides I think you are probably screwed… That or your CA and dealership are worse at communicating than what is normally expected which is pretty bad and you are going to magically have a car 3 months after it getting ordered when others have waited through extensive including some waiting more than a full month just to get on a boat…

All I can say is good luck and keep us posted!
Got the vin and spec sheet and everything looks good. Really surprised how quickly it was built (week 9)
That is fantastic! I was def not expecting to hear that but very glad for you. Congrats!

What dealers, if you don't mind me asking?

Were you able to get MSRP at Westmont? They wouldn't budge from 5k over MSRP when I contacted them back in October so I decided to go with Bill Jacob's.

Yup MSRP at all 3 locations. But inflated money factor/apr.

I actually just recently pulled my name off the list at Bill Jacobs. I'm #1 in line at westmont, and barrington is my preferred dealer.

Gotcha. I called every dealer in the Chicagoland area, including IN and WI. I got everything from "we're not taking new wait list customers" to "you're gonna pay $25k over."

That's bizarre... when did you call?

I wonder if it's because they're not expecting any more MY22 allocations and are waiting till they have a more firm date for MY23 production start.

I bet that's the reason. Just look at all the orders sitting at docks waiting for parts still.

I started the process in late 2021. Ended up finding out I knew one of the sales managers at a local dealer (long story). I saw no movement early on and called everywhere else in March 22. Waited a little only for my allocation to come good because my salesperson’s next up backed out.

Has anyone heard of any recent allocation drops? Spoke with both dealerships I'm waitlisted with and neither received a single M3 allocation for the month of March. They both are hoping for a handful this month but nothing to date. One dealership is a large center of excellence dealership and the other is an m certified dealership

Still sit at #3 at one dealership and #8 at the other.

Seems like pretty much what's going on at most dealerships. Some dealerships received allocations, but very few at the end of March. We probably won't hear about any more allocation drops until likely towards the end of this month, but probably shouldn't count on receiving one for the 2022MY as many people who received allocations weeks or months ago are getting pushed out towards the tail end of the production run.

Was told BMW cannot build my allocation (originally wk 18) as a 22 and that they've reached capacity for M3. My dealer said they are not expecting any more M3 allocations until 23MY.
