There's no doubt the S58 is a monster, stock or modified but how do we really know for sure that it can handle these power levels "all day long" without issue? The 1000hp+ drift car in question has only been running that power for a few weeks, no? What about 10K+ miles? There's no data.
BMW's track record with the plasma transferred wire arc (PTWA) thermal sprayed on liners in stock and modded B58s isn't so hot. If the liner becomes scored, you can't replace it as it's sprayed on. The S58 uses the same technology. The short block, and maybe even turbos, might be able to handle the power for a while, but what about all the other ancillary stuff like pumps, seals, cooling. heat exchangers, transmission, etc.?

I'm sure the S58 will be "stronger" than the S55, but I'm not yet convinced this is the new 2JZ. Also, when it comes to the 2JZ, yes, the short block was strong as hell and the motor could make massive power BUT, to make massive power requires lots of ancillary upgrades. It seems like most people think you can just add a single turbo, make 800+whp on the 2JZ, and that's it. That couldn't be farther from the truth.
