iD7 already comes with 2 LCD screens, albeit slightly smaller and lower in resolution, but when you add in the cost of button assemblies and dash with the cluster cowl, the complexity of assembly process, etc., the new dash could very well be cheaper.
Just a thought.
Not only is it "very possible"... it's ABSOLUTELY cheaper to slap on 1 screen, not integrated into the dash, which replaces many physical buttons. This is 100% a decision based on cost savings in terms of production, distribution, and raw material supply planning. You're no longer responsible for 20 different skus associated with physical buttons and multiple screens, you're now responsible for 1 sku and the associated distribution, warehousing/inventory etc for that. Not to mention all of this is operationally simpler.

There's a reason why so many manufacturers are going this route.

In the press blog, it was mentioned that there will be a package with a sensatec instrument panel. Wonder if it can be added standalone

Looks like shit. Totally makes the interior look cheap. Clearly this is all being driven by the accounting team to reduce costs. The best iteration to date has been the F80/F90 implementation.

Yep. Taken to the extremes, it becomes obvious why bean counters and production engineers prefer the "less is more" approach. Unfortunately, it seems that Marketing has also convinced the general public that this is an improvement.

The four-door high-performance sports car can also be optionally equipped with an Innovation Package, a Wireless Charging Tray for suitable smartphones, a Personal eSim, an instrument panel in Sensatec finish and M interior trims in Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite. The BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Pure Grey metallic is also available as a new colour.

A further way of highlighting the performance character of the BMW M4 Coupé models even more intensively is provided by the new M graphics for the engine compartment and luggage compartment lides. Fiona seems to be the only one. When you try KO, YMB, or Silverstone they become black.

Does the passenger side of screen have that cheap looking support piece connecting the screen to the dash like some of the iX models?

Never mind! Sad engineering.

Since I'm back to 105 for the 4th time I'll just assume I'm getting a MY23 at this point. I wonder what the price increase will be for the US. Guess I have some decision making to do soon
I completely agree on the forced touch screen controls.. I think I'll see if I can get some sort of smudge resistant film put onto mine, similar to what you can get on your phones, to counteract. I'm too excited for the car to land, can't turn back now 😅

Man I don't know what to think, my G80 order for sure will be a model 23 and I wasn't expecting this. Not to say I want to cancel or that I am not still excited until it arrives, I was really happy with that interior setup and how ID7 was integrated. I don't know what to think I guess until I see it in the flesh. The whole having to go through a menu for the AC has me kind of worried.

Definitely not a fan of the new interior. May have to go with a F90 as any order now will have the new design.

I don't like it, that said it probably won't stop me from getting one when my current lease is up.

I was afraid the manual might go away.

I am in the same boat as you man. I was super happy with the ID7 and the car as a whole. This screen and no physical buttons has me second guessing. I went and saw an i4 a week or so ago - I think I can get past the screen, sort of have some already. Not a fan but I don't hate it like I did. But the kickstand is cheap to me, and the no physical buttons for climate control has me worried too. The temp is on the screen, but I mess with fan speed more.

90% of the guys hating on iD8 have never sat in an i4.

Do you miss your old Blackberry? I can't imagine. Life is all about adapting and after a couple of weeks you'll be fine. Every button that is necessary...is still a physical button (volume, front/rear defrost, driving mode, gear selector, etc). Give it a shot.

I'd like to see an angle from the side, hopefully this doesn't have the same ugly kickstand thing.
Why would you cross an M3 and an RS3, they absolutely aren't in the same class 🤷🏾*♂️.

ID8 looks more outdated than ID7. Looks so, so cheap. Literally an Aliexpress option for those who don't have screens in their old cars.
