I started tentatively cross shopping an RS3 with the M3... It doesn't have this type of display and looks futuristic af on the inside.

I'd like to see an angle from the side, hopefully this doesn't have the same ugly kickstand thing.
Integration

Key word there. This is why this iPad set up doesn't look good at all.

I'm probably the worst whiner when it comes to this new design and functional direction, but I have no choice at this point. I will buy it, and like it. Or at least force myself to

I'll make the best out of nothing because there's no other car in the market like the G80 xDrive.

Totally agree. Really happy mine has id7 + extended leather. The new one is ok for an EV, but it's not on a driver focused M car, in my opinion.

I love the current interior on G8x cars. I see it as the pinnacle of a high tech, modern layout that maintains some of the classic design language we have all know for years. The new, long screen definitely destroys that language, especially how BMW has elected to not really "build it in" and instead "add it on top".
Absolutely, I see your point. And there's been others who hated on ID7 on the G80 saying the F80 was the last interior with a raw driver oriented dash that doesn't have that new digital layout in the new cars. It's the same talk every few years..

Compared to the 3 series and i models, I don't HATE the instrument cluster. Still wish they were dials though.

I think the new M3+ID8 interior looks pretty good. Functional-looking, despite the loss of a few physical controls. When the 3-series LCI dropped yesterday I was scared they would lose the big shifter knob on the M3 too, but glad to see that gets to stay at least!

Of course, as a MY23 will likely (hopefully... eventually...) end up being my first M3, I'm going to assume I'll fall into that mindset of "this is the best M3 and everything released after it is incrementally worse." Or was it "The best M3 is always the current generation -1." I forgot. :P

For me the biggest thing is not even the actual design. The driving mechanics and 6mt is why I even started looking at this car, not the infotainment system. But this is a blatant, bold-faced cost cutting 'improvement'. And yet... MSRP is going to go up.

Feeling very much like I'm dealing with some bullshit used car dealer tactics. It's as obvious a bait and switch as I've ever seen.

I'm actually surprised that the vast majority here hates the new iD8 display.
Although I agree with the opinion that it looks tacked on unliked the integrated design of the current dash, I think the huge screen makes it look high-tech.

TBH, I wouldn't mind having the latest software and better screen/resolution.

Because don't you know - 32" TVs are more advanced and are twice the price of 85" TVs.

Here we go again...I'm getting grillgate flashbacks...

In Hegge's defense, I do think it's very possible that the new dash is cheaper for BMW to build.
iD7 already comes with 2 LCD screens, albeit slightly smaller and lower in resolution, but when you add in the cost of button assemblies and dash with the cluster cowl, the complexity of assembly process, etc., the new dash could very well be cheaper.
Just a thought.

I might not have pushed myself to the other side if they had kept the physical buttons.

I like it. I was worried about the shifter so that's fine, I am satisfied now just waiting for allocation...

While I still prefer Id7, I honestly dont think it looks bad at all. Curious to see if there is any exterior changes.

I'm SO happy the old shifter is not changing on the M3! The new curved screen makes the interior look very modern, especially with the carbon buckets. The old iD7 dash looks outdated already. Hopefully the console rotary dial controls the new screen because I don't want to be leaving fingerprints on it. Maybe gesture control is not useless after all!

Looks like though I'll be opting for full leather to give some pazaz to the new dash.

Anybody seen the exterior changes to the MY2023 M3 yet? I hope BMW hasn't added anymore cheap shiny black plastic to the outside, or made the headlights look goofy like the non-M 2023 3 series....

It's a possibility - they are in the business of making money after all. I would think that for components like these the cost is subsidized across the whole range. Would it not be cheaper to keep the current design and production process rather than investing in R&D? I don't know.

When I look at this redesign, "cost cutting," "crap," and "cheap" is the last thing that comes to mind. I get why people might not like it, I just don't think it's worth getting an aneurysm over.

So it looks like they did more cost cutting. If you don't pick full leather, the door panels are plain black.

Thread title is a little deceptive.

M4 updates have not been confirmed or revealed by BMW. It most likely wont happen until next year.

Agreed — not my thread title. Someone merged my post with an existing thread. It's basically confirmed in the press release that the ID8 implementation is currently only for the M3

Not everything is better just because it's new.

If they integrated the screen properly into the dash , I would've been all over it as many others with taste.
