911 vs M3/M4... a recurring comparison done by enthusiasts and car reviewers for over two decades now.
Track performance and pure race car feel —> 911 Everyday do it all car with similar performance—> M3/M4 People who have owned both, myself included, loved them both for different reasons. Yet, unless you can afford a very large stable of cars, they are a little too similar to have at the same time (unless you have multiple drivers in the household, of course).

Picked the wrong fight. The 911 base takes a decisive victory here.
The Camry would've scored one point on the back seat in this test as well if that makes sense.

So I’m not alone struggling mightily with this decision. It sucks since if I don’t decide now between the added unknowns of the AWD and the known 992 we loose a summer with the 992 should it be our choice in the end. Decisions, decisions.
And at this point no outsider input will be of any help. It’s only me and my wife who can separate them for us and I think an AWD G82 test drive is a must before we can. |

I still often wonder why we pit "two seaters" that are a tad more dedicated against cars designed to handle a little bit of everything.

Get the two seater and sacrifice practicality we make good use of but can do without or sacrifice ultimate driving dynamics and classic sports car aura. It’s not about which is best at something, we know that isn’t comparable. It’s about deciding which sacrifice is worst. Not an easy thing to do on paper. |

I would say 90% of the people comparing an M4 and a 911 don't know what they want and need to decide first. That might be test driving both, but I always found the head-to-head reviews to be a bit weird.

Same here.......at least from a "consider this one or that one" perspective. The 911 is useless for anything utilitarian.

Kind of irrelevant comparison for us in down under - M4 is appr 50% of 911 price...

I still own a BMW product - a mini Kids X5. It's electric.
Yes Porsche is better, way better, even a base model is better than an M4. What is funny is they compared an M2 to a Macan on laps LOL... Goes to show you. Also I got rid of my crappy M2 and traded for a Macan, believe me what an upgrade in handling, braking, comfort and pretty much everything. Real test was never looked back at the M2 and when I did I felt this. My previous F80 M3 Comp was quick, looked ok, but left lots to be desired for. The Cayenne that replaced it, is better in every way to live with. Handling is different story though. It's an SUV, but I look back at it and love it. Even photographs better. The 911 coming certainly will be magical in terms of comparison. My dilemma is really between a going hard GT3 or Turbo or GTS. First world problems, but once you go that route you will understand. Still I love the interior of the new M4. |

At least for me the M3 comp. will be our only car. Which means two kids in the back and stuff in the trunk. My main use case will be on the Autobahn and there a M3 will be faster than a 911.

I had a 997.2 GTS all picked out a few years back to replace my 335, and then we got pregnant with our second, so I had to go for the F80. Was incredibly surprised at not just how good it was overall, but how good the DCT performed. It's no PDK, but it did an admirable job, and was super fun to play with.
Got my wife into a Macan GTS, which is sublime. I don't know that I believe Porsches are "BMWs for grown ups", as the common sentiment goes, but I will say they are a notch above in almost every regard, save for engine and drivetrain design and performance. The G8x is I'm sure a fine alternative to a 911 - 911 4S, just as my F80 was, but everyone should at least get to try out a PDK or manual 911. Perfect Porsche balance is no myth. It feels incredible imho

ok let me get this straight:
A base 911 has 125hp and 200NM less than the M4 comp and costs, at least here in switzerland, 20K more than the M4 Comp. Not to mention all the daily benefit the M4 has compared to the Porsche. And people tend to the 911? I'm confused. |
