Installing carbon fiber side vents

Just ordered a pair of carbon fiber side vents. Do you guys have any tips on removing and reinstalling the m3 emblems onto the new pieces.

If you want to keep the oem pair to put back on the car, at a later date, you can order a second set of the stock oem ones, they're about $35 each. I think there are some YouTube videos on how to do it.

Only tip I got is use trim removal tool put microfiber under near when prying u want pry from door side towards the head lights becuase front portion of it is like hooks and back are just clips. Makes a lot of noise but easy to remove.

He's talking about removing the "M3" from the actual side vent. The double sticky part. I have the OEM carbon ones, so, they came already done. There is an OEM set in the classifieds, right now, for $500.

I ordered a pair on Amazon that are dry carbon for $200. Another member on here bought them from this vendor and said the quality was great. Having a hard time spending even 500 for a pair. Just wanted to see if anyone had tips for the badges with the 3m tape.

Here's how I did the badges,
  1. Take a before pic to help with placement
  2. Use a heat gun (~1 minute) to loosen adhesive
  3. Use a trim tool to pry off the badges (each side consists of 3 separate badges). They'll come off pretty clean. All the adhesive remained on the side vent for me.
  4. Use alcohol to clean badges and cf vents
  5. Place new tape on the badges
  6. Replace badges: Competition, then ///, then M3.

Also, I might be the member you referenced. I left an Amazon review so everyone would feel good purchasing!

Link?

Tape a pic of the current badges for reference, i just put the 3 pieces on the double sided tape and used a scalpel to cut them out perfectly.

Hi. Those vent comes with the white clips? Or you have to use the ones that the OEM vents have?

Reuse your white clips. From what I understand, they can't be ordered separately. I can confirm that you can secure the vents with only 2/3 clips

Good to know! I've got a stack of Amazon gift cards and I don't shop there much.

I replaced my M3 badges with black ones after swapping to the carbon vents. I placed some tape on the badges and made sure they were securely taped to the clear scotch tape before I removed them to ensure the proper spacing. Once that was on sufficiently well I placed twisted fishing line behind the badges and gave a firm tug down and out and the emblems popped off. The scotch tape keeps them in place when they pop off. I did make sure to warm up the backside of the OE vents to help with reducing the adhesion. As for the replacement carbon vents I had to use a lot of 3m tape on one of the vents. The other vent popped in nicely. Wax and grease remover, then rubbing alcohol and it will stick almost permanently.

Finally got them installed. The quality of the carbon fiber was real nice. Definitely had to use 3m tape to get them to fit properly but overall, very happy with the results. Cutting the emblems definitely was not very nice ha.

Yes, it took a lot of tweaking to get them right. Good thing I bought a large roll of 3M tape because I used a good bit. For 200 bucks though, I cant complain.

I seem to think the manufacturer is all the same just different markups from different vendors. I got mine straight from the “manufacturer” on Ali express. Needless to say…I had the same fitment and install issues. This is from a known quality aftermarket company. I bought basically the entire carbon package from them and this was the only part that fit terrible and needed to use 3m to make it fit. Nothing like OE. And I paid more than$200!! The weave is nice on mine but the fitment sucks.
