I recommend getting an obd adapter and the bimmerlink app. Let's you put the rear calipers into service mode, making for a quick swap.
Questions: When you put the rear calipers into service mode, do you still have to compress the piston? If so, is it a screw and press or just press?

Once the rears were in service mode, I was able to slightly compress the piston a few mm's with the old pads by prying. They moved easily. Unlike the older style screw-type we're used to.

How would you both say these pads are compared to the stock ones in terms of initial bite and overall performance? Looking for something that really takes the dust issue out for a decent price but is still close or same performance of stock.

Las Vegas is dusty all year long, so the wheels are never clean; I'm not too worried about that. Im am more concerned about the embarrassing noise the OEM brakes make. Hopefully, the yellow stuff will fix it; if not, red is my next option

Threads like this, solidify my decision to have gone with the CCBs. I've had at least half a dozen cars with OEM Brembos, and it's all the same song and dance. The brake dust is horrendous, among other issues.

Having to keep swapping out, and testing different pads, for what works, just sucks. I swapped my OEM Brembo pads, on my C7 for the Carbotech 1521s, and all it really did for me, was just change the dust from brown to a white/ silver powder. The initial bite was softer, but it didn't seem to change the overall braking power, very much.

I traded the car in with those pads, after I'd had about 10k miles on the pads. They were ok, for me, just the dust wasn't that much better.

Yeah they aren't bad for the price and they include new wear pad sensors which is nice.

Trouble is, according to their site, they don't make any pads for the M4.

Where and when can I get these akebono pads? Ran them on a few of my previous BMW's and they always had zero dust or squeaks.

I emailed Akebono and the customer rep told me they do not make brake pads for this platform. Their exact words were:

Tooling to make pads is very expensive, so when deciding which aftermarket pads to produce, we look at the number of vehicles still in operation. There are not enough of your model still on the road.

You should get the EBC brakes instead

Hey Mike, which brake pads do you recommend for stock bite, lower dust? I don't care about noise.

I just like to follow these threads to see what, and if people have come up with anything for Dusty Brembo Syndrome. Solidifies my decision to spend the $8,150 on the CCBs, and allows me to visit these threads, solely as a spectator.

I've had about half a dozen cars with Dusty Brembos, so, I am sincerely interested in a solution. I just dont think its possible, with current brake pad compounds, to give you less dust, while also allowing you to have near stock stopping performance, without eating the rotors in 10k miles. You either have one, or the other. And for me, its stopping power.
