Ambient lights - wiring - issue and oddity
Just noticed my G82 driver door ambient light strip is not on and also the light under driver seat is not either. All other lights and strips inside the car are light up and no problem. So I took out the driver seat light to check for connection and the bulb itself rather than disman the door card.
As soon as I unplugged the connector of the driver seat light then the door strip came on ! I plugged it back, but it did not turn on (door strip was still on), locked the car and unlocked it after a few mins, then problem occurred again : Door strip and seat light not on. Unplugged the seat light and then door strip worked. So either the seat light broken or problem with the wiring itself, as my understanding is that the ambient lights are wired in serial hence the reaction from the seat light to the door strip. The odds here: 1. I swapped the passenger seat light to driver seat light but the same problem (you could say the wiring problem) 2. The driver seat light does not turn on on the passenger seat connection either (you could say the light broken) 3. Plugged that driver seat light to my wife G02 car then it worked. 4. Plugged in driver seat connection with a standard 2 pin light then it worked (door strip also worked in this case, just the same with the connector has nothing plugged in, when I first took the original light out) I have tried a few other ways to test as well but now out of the idea and not sure if its worth to strip off the door card to check for connection ? The connector on the light has 3 pin with I believe the live + ground (with get the standard 2 pin light working) and the third wire which I assume the signal and chain connection in the system ? Anyone has the wiring diagram for G82 or any suggestion ? |

Yeah, not that problem with warranty for sure, I'm just interested to find out how the wiring configured and how the car controls the light in this new model.
For example, on the passenger seat (which has no issue), I removed the light and plugged back many times and it would light up no issue. But no way it worked if I plugged in that the light from driver seat (it worked when I plugged it in my wife's car, so eliminate the broken light issue here). And if I connect an Y adapter into passenger seat socket, and plugged in both passenger and driver seat lights, then both of them are not light up at all !! Just blowing my mind. |

I have the same issue - as in my driver door light strip malfunctions - not deep diving into serial wiring or whatever. Did you ever get this reseolved under warranty?

The ambient light “map” is controlled by the BDC- this is what the car expects to see from a number of “nodes” perspective on the ambient lights.
The car can “auto-address” these nodes based on what map is set in the code, then the car will know which node to light up which color during various operations (such as opening the door while the engine is running producing red blinking ambients). This is why you can’t just “put a y cable in and add lights”- they need to be addressed. All the ambients are on a single circuit btw- a single loop. It sounds to me like one of your nodes (led modules) hasn’t been addressed correctly, or has failed in some way. It’s also possible that the software in your BDC is somehow set incorrectly…. You should probably take it to the dealer- it’ll be far easier for them to trouble shoot than you…. I found all this out when I went back and added door pocket lights (which were deleted post my22) to my G26. The coding to the BDC is pretty substantial to do this and get it all to work correctly. |

I had the issue resolved
I had the exact same issue. The driver side footwell lighting died, and it caused the entire LED strip to stop working. I wasted so long trying to fix it. It’s a simple fix: you have to replace that footwell light with the correct working light. They are all linked together. If one link of the light dies, it causes this issue. Sadly, that part is incredibly hard to find. I ended up buying the part used from eBay. It was shipped from a different country. To test out that it is the dome light causing the issue, just switch the driver side footwell light with the passenger side. You will see that the reverse effect will happen.
