2024 mirror assembly different for mirror tap / Radar detector connection?

Hi y’all! I’ve seen a few videos for G82 mirror tap installs, but the actual plastic housing they remove is different than what I have on my 2024 model M4 comp xdrive coupe. Does anyone know if the assembly has changed recently? I’m not sure where to go to find a technical diagram of the plastic assembly.

I want to re-use my Uniden R7 that I had in my Cayman GTS but want to be as non-disruptive as possible on the electrical connection. And I don’t want to break this housing trying to get it open

Thank you!

Unlikely there has been changes to the plastic bits. Are you sure you’re doing it right? These are pretty easy to figure out with a good light and a plastic pry tool.

There are different housing depending on what equipment you have (assistance wise). There is a thread in the electronics section of the forum that shows the differences, IIRC. Search and ask questions there.

Thank you - I didn’t think about that but it makes sense. I have all of the driving assistance plus / pro, park assistant pro packages. The video I saw had little side pieces that went all the way to the top of the assembly while mine does not. I’ll keep poking around

All you need to do is pull down that flat piece of plastic down and towards windshield and just comes off easily. You will not break it. Don’t need to pry with any tool just with your fingers. Start in the corner closer to the roof and mirror and just pull down and away from you. Then it will look similar to video you probably saw where you pry apart.
As someone mentioned above it’s becuase you probably have Drivers Assist Package.

Yours does have that, it's just covered by another piece. As mentioned, from the roof liner side of the piece, pull it down, then you can slide it out. Then those two pieces will be exposed that you can pry apart like the videos show.

So that worked great thank you! I was trying to remove the clamshell pieces first.

Now that it’s connected it appears to be permanent 12v vs switched? Radar is not shutting off with the car. Tapped into the red and brown / black taps on the upper connector in the mirror housing.

I’m surprised there would be a constant 12v up there.

Am I stuck manually powering the unit on and off every time?

Some of the electronics in the car are powered powered for about 8 minutes from when the car goes into battery-only power. That connector is one of them. It will shut off eventually, but it does get powered on when you unlock the car as well. You can shut the car off and lock it, wait 10-15 min, and go check. it should be off when you peer through the window (don't bring your key with you)

I’ll do that. I tried earlier and it was still on 20-30 minutes later. No key in my pocket. I’ll keep messing with it but I can’t imagine why it would need power at the mirror all the time.

First world problem I guess

Make sure you used the black plug in the connector, not the brown one.

Berzerker is correct make sure u used the larger black plug. I have it set up and works perfectly fine. As stated above shuts off in about 10 min. No battery issues.

Thank you- that’s what I did wrong I guess. I used the brown after seeing a few videos and they recommended red / brown. I’ll disassemble and move it to the black connector.

Thank you for the help!

I know there's some videos out there, but for those of us who plan to do this in the future, can someone confirm what colors you plug into in the connector?

Red wire on the tap matches with the red wire on the connector, black wire on the tap goes to the black wire on the mirror connector.

I have most options on my 24 G82 included Driver Asssistance Pro, Park assist and the Executive package. Removing the shell around the mirror is super easy. There are 3 pieces. The cap and the 2 sides. Remove the cap by grabbing both sides as close to the headliner as possible. Just pull straight down and the friction clips will release. Then lower it and slide it back toward you as it is hooked over the 2 side pieces. You can then just pull the 2 side pieces off easily. Should take no more than 2 minutes to remove. The first time I did it I used a trim removal kit and after that I found a trim tool was not needed.

I'm having a hell of a time trying to pull of the two side plastic pieces. Can someone walk me through that part? No matter what I try nothing is budging.
