2nd key requires pin everytime.

I’ve played with this thing for hours trying to figure it out, time for some help.

My main key automatically connects to my ID everytime. Sometimes I grab the other key and have to login with a pin everytime. Is there a way to get it function like my main key?

… yea first world problems.

Update at bottom: dealer fix it

1 key per profile can be paired. So no.

Isn’t that the whole point of the profile? So you can pair your key, card, digital key to it and if you use a non-paired one, it goes to guest mode or someone else’s profile unless they know your pin?

I’m the only one who drives it. There is no other profile.

I'm also a single driver so all my key fobs, digital key in phone, key card etc... all paired to my profile and no need any pin whatsoever.

Thank you, I’m going to keep trying or ask the dealer next visit.

Thanks again

ID8? You can’t with ID7

can't with ID8 either. Unless you count digital key card and iPhone/Android. One physical key per profile.

This is not accurate when it comes to the fobs. At least not in my experience with multiple cars with ID7. The key card and phone seem to use different logic and do allow me to share a profile, I think. I honestly rarely use those two.

I created multiple accounts with bmw and then assigned a fob to each. Then I try to get them configured the same so that my driving experience is unchanged.

It is annoying.

I spent 2 hours last night with these fucking keys. I don’t think it’s possible with id8. I ended up making a second profile until my next dealer visit. What a silly issue to have.

Yeah, it is stupid. My ID is my wife's name, even thought I bought the car and am first on all the paperwork. The one key links, the other I just hit home and ignore when it asks for all that id crap.

Am i lucky one or it is set differently for each market ( AU here) ?

When first got the car, I installed the app on phone, created my profile, log in the car with that profile and set the pin for profile, then set up 1 key fob with my profile and it saved all settings with it.

I then used the second key, selected my profile, the car then asked for the pin, after that, I went to the car menu and set to link the key to the same profile.

Then I set up the digital key in phone in the same manner.

The car only asks the pin the first time using. After that if you link the key to profile then it will recognise the key and set to the linked profile.

Or you may miss that linking path ?

Good news! I knew I was passing my dealer today and brought both keys. They deleted both keys from the car and added them together. No more pin needed, both keys are now identical.

I wonder if it's a software version thing. On my '22 G80, both keys have the same profile. On my wife's 23 X5, only one key can be set per profile. If I pair one, the other requires the pin. I went through this a few times and finally just made a new profile for her. Both vehicles are ID7

RACE M3 If you programmed it like it said in this video, cant you do the same with ur spare key and log in to your BMW connected app and assign the same profile to your spare key? Did that not work? I know u said the dealer fixed it but based on what this video says, you should be able to log in to ur connected app and assign the same profile to the other key. Also delete the option for the PIN so u dont have to enter it. Wonder if you had tried it before u went to the dealer or not

No idea if its a year or software thing. My cars a 23 with id8. Id stop by the dealer and let them handle it. They told me its a common issue and had me squared away in no time.

I didn't have a profile fully setup ahead of time when I got the car so From my understanding that was the issue. Had I done that they can program both keys to one profile.

The id8 interface is a bit different; it didn't give the option of no pin on the second key until now. Previous to the dealership I could delete all the profiles from the key so only guest was an option. When I would log into the car my profile would show up, but required a pin.

Now both keys are identical and the pin is optional for both. If I change a setting while using one key and grab the other key the following day it's all the same.

Digging up this old thread. I left my primary key at a family member’s house (took different car there) which is ~2 hours away. I tested the 2nd key (never used it before) just to make sure the battery still had juice and at start up I had to login with my pin, but all of my setting like M1/M2 weren’t the same. I thought by logging into my profile, everything would carry over. Is there a separate profile that links to the profile I use to sign into the car and MyBMW app? I feel like this is a really dumb question/situation so sorry in advance.

You just go to your profile in settings select profile 1 while you have the second key fob with you delete key and reconfirm new key with profile and all done. Wow shouldn’t be a big deal lol did this in the parking lot in two minutes before my haircut.

I believe only phone connection preference, automatic positioning, and safety features enabled/disabled are what's stored on the key profiles. I don't believe things like M1/M2 are stored.
