I replied to your picture in the other thread but this is something I think could happen (the Audi's implementation). The grill might not be functional (read: open) at this area but instead of body color it will try to appear "hidden" or more like a full grill and less noticeable as a support structure.

One element i think is missed in the renders that you can kinda see from profile shots of the M3 test mules and from the i concept is that the grill is not fully upright, at the top it has some rake to it which is harder to feel the effect of in pictures but in person should make the design sleeker |

I think JonEnglish had a good point a couple posts back with the Audi as well, could be somewhat of a hybrid approach like Audi did, where they kinda blend together. When you think about it even BMW's boldest designs, tend to hold a bit back and overall remain reserved in nature, so I am sure it will be something great. Been seeing more and more G20's appearing on the streets now, really a looker in person, that is for sure.

Those are comical and vomit worthy. A Lexus sports car in disguise.
I hope this is not what it will look like. Too many openings and grills and up and down action. Looks like a middle school design gone wrong. The whole design looks Japanese and super busy. |

Just... Awefull
Every new model designed by Josef Kaban just looks like crap. Look at the BMW A-class and now, BMW unveils the new BMW RS5 The only good news is that he changed departments... now he's with Rolls-Royce and there a huge grill suits! |

While I can see your point of view, personally I have to reserve judgment until I see the final product.

Was at a dealership gettin my '16 M3 serviced today so finally took some time to examine the new 3 (mainly just the back cause no point in seeing any other view at this point). Anyway I can't get over that tail light design. Theres a Lexus dealership right next door and I bet they must have been laughing their asses off inside when these new 3s started showing up - I'm sure they had some pretty good copy cat jokes or somethin. I know the M3 proportions will be diff and more aggressive and all but I just dunno if I can do it. I held judgment till I could see it in person but it literally looks just like the pics, total let down.

This is a sound approach. Renders, rumors, mules, sketches etc. are intriguing and fun to comment on but do yourselves a favor and wait for the real thing before making decisions. A Ferrari with a BMW front will look sh*t and vice versa, an attractive car design is more than it’s grills...sometimes seemingly small tweaks, character lines, curves etc. can make a world of a difference.

It would appear that some BMW departments are running out of ideas and/or useful work, thus they kill their time by recreating 50 year old incoherent concept cars such as this Garmisch. |

lol I forgot all about that car and I worked as a lot guy at a Pontiac dealer back when those cars were new!
I hadn't noticed until now how similar those wheels are to the e46 M3 wheels. Pontiac was gunning hard for BMW looks back then it seems

Someone, explain this to me: why the hell does M Vision Next's design not align with this G80 rumor? Front design including the grill is completely different...

IMO we can’t really see the front design well enough to say completely different and as for the grill I think it looks as close as expected to a futuristic and generic vision concept. If the vision concept was an M3 concept I would agree more with you since the specific concept cars of a coming model are usually very similar to the final product.

I have been thinking the same thing. The vehicle that people refer to when speculating on the G80 grill is the Vision Dynamics Concept (which it for future electrified vehicles), not the Vision M Next concept. BMW is about evolution, not revolution. I will be very surprised if the G80 grill is as big as some are speculating.
