2023 M3C with iDrive 8

I get the map problems with Waze/Google Maps/Apple Maps. Perfect with BMWs native Nav.

I’ve tried rebooting iDrive, rebooting iPhone and turning off enhanced integration.

If anyone has a solution or ideas it would be great. Although BMW Nav is quite good I really like the police warnings from Waze.

Picked up a 2022 i4 last week. CarPlay has my car way off. Have to keep resetting the idrive. Called BMW. Like they have not heard of this issue. Anyone have a fix yet?

Like everyone else, I'm also having this issue. I tried installing the eSIM functionality in hopes that that would fix it but it did not. Connecting the phone to the USB seems to have fixed it however, and per this article (https://www.autoevolution.com/news/w...im-207340.html) that makes sense as that eliminates the need for the phone to use the head unit GPS. Not an actual 'fix', of course, since means I'm forgoing the convenience of wireless connectivity and charging, but for long drives where you really need to use Waze good to know, I think...

Same problem here. I think it is an apple issue. Usually if i "force" quite maps, it corrects itself. Kind of on/off issue (lately it has been fine...)

I usually use Apple maps, but it seems to mess up other apps as well (e.g., if I go into Google Maps or another app that uses GPS while I am in the car, the GPS is still not correct). This seems to happen when I try and actually use Maps to get directions, but not when driving normally.

Hopefully Apple issues a fix soon (probably a general CarPlay issue). When I switch to BMW's iDrive8 GPS, there are no issues at all with that GPS.

I just picked up my car from break in service. Apparently there is a TSB for this. They updated some software and the issue appears to be fixed (on the ride home it was perfect).

So the issue is with BMW and not CarPlay?

I updated my phone to the newest beta software thinking it would fix the problem, but now it's worse... before the issue only occurred when using Apple Maps as GPS (when putting in directions), but now the map is totally off at all times.

I am still a few hundred miles away from break-in service, but I can honestly wait.

iDrive8's navigation system is actually pretty incredible and integrates seamlessly with the head-up display, etc., so if I really need directions, I'm more than happy to use iDrive8 and forego CarPlay.

It’s not an Apple issue though. I have three other CarPlay cars and all work perfectly. This is the only car where this happens.

I do agree though that the HUD integration with BMW nav almost makes me not mind. I love seeing the map on the HUD so I’ve been using that for the past month waiting for my break in service. I’m sure BMW will finally fix their software but I’m not going to fuss and have my car at the dealer for weeks worrying about it.

Apple Maps doesn’t show the same detail. Only simple next step stuff. The internal NAV shows intersections and lanes, etc.

I know the title of this thread is ID8, and I didn’t see anyone else mention this (but I am old), this happens to me since I picked up my G83 (ID7). The problem is likely with Apple. I am running firmware 11/2022.63 and IOS 16.3.1

Killing the app on the phone usually fixes the problem, reboot always does. Happens a lot with quick entry and exit like a gas station visit.

Same issue here, and happened to both my IPhone 13 and my new iPhone 14 with 16.2. Works just fine in other cars, so it’s definately the idrive8. Frustrating, I prefer waze due to the traffic in the Bay Area, but as stated the BMW nav isn’t bad. Hope it get resolved soon.

It’s important to tell the dealer so the number of claims jumps to get BMW’s attention. Surprised that this wasn’t caught.

I found that simply toggling the wi-fi off/on on my iPhone is a quick fix to get it back on location.

This CarPlay issue is driving me nuts. I’ve tried everything but within a few minutes it starts bouncing around.

Anyone have any luck? I was fine for the first 2 months of ownership.

I upgraded to 16.4 public beta and removed my phone and added it back to the car and all seems to be back to normal. For now…

Just as a heads up. 4 days since I updated to the BMW Software Upgrade 11/2022.60 and this issue appears to be fixed. All non BMW maps (Apple/Google/Waze) seem to be staying in the right location.

For my phone it’s an iPhone 13 and I’m on iOS version 16.3.1.

🤞🏻this eradicates this problem for good. Will update if I find myself in the middle of. A field once again when I’m supposed to be on the highway.

I am still having a issue with this. Called BMW. They know about it and are working with apple on a fix.

For previous 3 weeks I’ve been frustrated with this issue, and got used to “Siri Wi-Fi off, Siri Wi-Fi on” at least once per day to re-set location for Waze to work.

So this week I said F-it, picked up a radar detector and started using the Idrive8 Navi. To my surprise, the car Navi si quite good. Better detail than Waze w/r/t roads/lanes, still gives me hazards, picks-up red light camera’s, HUD compatibility, and offers alternates for traffic.

I still use CarPlay for music and play/record texts, but not for navigation anymore and I’m doing well. The Waze withdrawals are over and i feel much better now.

Maybe this was strategic by the BMW engineers…
