They are definitely “gimmicks” in how they are used by majority of buyers. For its true function, yeah not gimmicks. But let’s be real, many people get them because now their instagram page is about to blow up. Which to each their own.

Porsche a while ago realized that iron brakes are more than enough for track performance. Because they are. They admitted that they only kept CCB as an option because of a particular buyer (The buyer that doesn’t track the car but options them due to substantially less brake dust).

The carbon buckets are really only well suited for track performance. They provide significantly less lateral movement than standard seats. But Most will
Never even see the G forces necessary to make these seats worthwhile. But most buyers get them for looks. If BMW put carbon fiber on the sports seats and a non CF back on the buckets. Most of the “buckets make the car” crowd would be saying “regular sport seats make the car”.

I have both options. But I track the crap out of the my cars and don’t even have ppf heh.

I have the Buckets and CCB too.

I selected the carbon buckets because I like a firm seat with high bolsters. They are not a gimmick in my opinion. I probably would not have purchased this car if the seats weren't an option. The comfort seats have no side bolster to speak of. I need to be held in the seat and if you've ever found the limit and wrecked the side bolsters save your hips. I don't track that often anymore and honestly this isn't a track car. Don't misunderstand, It's a great car! And I will take it to the track this year just to feel the limits.
But this car is a family sports car for me. It gives me something fun to drive when the kids want to go to dinner with us. I can take it golfing and bring a friend; with two sets of cubs. Try that in a Porsche.

And I can definitely pull enough G's on the road to justify the seats. Ask my wife

Probably similar experience, although Tesla's "Vegan leather" is so slippery that the roundabout I used to take every day exiting my neighborhood had me hanging on for dear life. I knew it was terrible when I'd jump in my wife's Cayenne and feel like I was in a cocoon.

Hate the player, not the game. Teslas here in H Town are driven with, ahem, some aplomb. They work exceptionally well here for those who can charge at home.

I live outside of Sacramento. I recently learned that we are number one in electric car sales. They have become a Democrat status symbol around here.

I think it comes down to size and frame of the driver. I’ve sat in the cf buckets and they are plenty comfortable. My f80 has the competition seats that are fairly bolstered…not quite as much the cf buckets but highly bolstered and small none the less. I’m 5’6” and 155 lbs. My opinion is the CF seats raise the ‘specialness’ of the vehicle. Especially the interior.
