I am looking at M3 allocation now
allocations are much easier to get now
so the next logical thing that will happen is discount off MSRP
this will be gradual , but will follow M4 path
and obviously larger discounts if significant economical down turn

Deal isn’t done until car is signed. An allocation, even if built to customer specifications, isn’t a signed purchase agreement. From my perspective, good on him for getting the best deal he could. Dealers screw customers all the time.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. All the cars I’ve offered the deal is firm at time of order with a non refundable deposit.
Now if you find one on the lot you have a good shot at a discount.

In California, there is no such thing as a non refundable deposit so YMMV.

I have my custom ordered G80 sitting at the dealership right now for pick up Saturday. I was shocked there is no BMW Loyalty returning customer discount of 1K or so. The current deal is MSRP. They say no discounts. I bet they would take 1K or so off if I were willing to walk but I've waited a long time for it and it would sell fast.

All deposits are refundable. Until you sign for the car and drive it off the lot, you can walk away with no obligation.

My dealer was offering $8K-$10K off M4's about 2 months ago. Not sure if they still are or not.

I had equity in my first m4 and basically ended up costing me $20 more per month to go to the new car. The dealer has this one and it was in my opinion over spec so they wanted to move and made me a deal.

Would someone tell me why M4's are discounted more than the M3's?

Not as in demand. You'll find M4s on lots at least somewhere. Very rarely you'll see any M3s sitting on a lot.

Is there any reason why BMW can't adjust their production (over 1-2 years) to increase the % of M3s at the expensive of M4s?

most likely related to previous projections
like they predicted that M4 will be 50 % of production
so ordered supplies based on these predictions
can't do last minute change as they committed to x number of doors for M4 for example
if they change order, then there is penalty and penalty cost is more than cost of incentives to move the M4
It seems they are already adjusting and more dealers are getting M3 allocations

As the previous poster explained, it's incredibly logistically complex. Lots of things are planned out months or even years in advanced and it's nearly impossible to compensate quickly. I doubt it's anywhere close to 50/50, probably more like 75/25 or even more skewed towards the G80, but it's still very difficult to pivot.
