US curb weight rules require manufacturers to include in the listed curb weight options that are expected to be ordered often.... there are going to be many more loaded exec pack m440s than 430 rwd. So the m440 curb weight is probably closer to the heaviest possible iteration for that version than the 430 |

@mkoesel
F32 430i RWD listed at 3574 lbs F32 440i RWD listed at: 3704 lbs F32 440i xDrive listed at 3827 lbs F82 listed at 3625 lbs - F82 is listed 51 lbs above F32 430i, 79 lbs below F32 440i and 202 lbs below 440i Xdrive. - F32 440i Xdrive is 150lbs lighter than G22 M440i. Is that all mild hybrid system? I don’t know, some could be a fatter standard feature content of the M performance model. As noted as a caveat in my op and detailed by xlover there is also a question mark of apples to apples when using different sources for weight. (All F series weight listed are sourced from bmwusa.com while G22 is from press release). I.e. the M440i G22 could show up as 4K+ lbs when added to bmwusa.com which is eye watering but not necessarily an indication of the G82 doing the same. ZF AT and M-DCT weight is within a few kg. Thanks for providing that data, solstice.
One other thing to be aware of: F32 430i/440i have a standard 8AT while the F82 has a standard 6MT. That accounts for part of the difference in the listed weights. While, as xlover points out, there are regulations governing automotive weights and measures, F8x 6MT sell-through was likely high enough to warrant its inclusion in the advertised weight. For the F3x, likely not. Hence the 8AT was standard on those cars (and for the new generation is no longer offered at all) and surely included in their weight figures. We'll see how it all shakes out but I believe that even the RWD 6MT G82 is going to gain at least 50 lb. over a 6MT F82. The AWD 8AT Competition model is almost sure to touch 3900 lb. |

Note: I intentionally used the AT numbers for F32 due to the exclusion of MT in G22. The op was a comparison of F32 vs G22 platform as indication of 4 series platform weight gain. |

Too many negatives about the M4: the grille, the car is huge, the weight of a nearly 4,000 pound car, no DCT. All those negatives while costing $80k plus would make me regret not stretching for a 911. Last edited by Hegge; 06-03-2020 at 06:42 PM.. |

It’s a cool and intriguing option to have. More options is better than less. The 992 is lovely btw. I drove a base a few months back. Superb car but less practical of course due to space. I’m still not 100+ sure which which way I will go. I will need the M4 to be launched so I can compare personal builds and specifications. |

I'm going 3700lbs for the 6MT RWD and 3950lbs for the 8AT AWD, +/- 50lbs on each. I would be really surprised if they are far away from that

Seeing as how the latest M5 kept weight in check with the addition of AWD over the previous gen, I suspect the G80/G82 will end up being more trim and closer to 3,750lbs, but who knows? Maybe wishful thinking.

Only way to save the underwhelming design is to come out with a lightweight base car that drives phenomenally compared to the high standards that F8x M3/4 have set.
From the information "leaked" so far however, I doubt we'll see any M4 under 1600kg.

^That is hard to believe, the outgoing M6 is longer than the M8, I can't imagine the M4 longer than the M8

Everyone saying how big it is...have you seen a G20? It's not exactly small so I don't know what people are expecting.

According to what M4 dimensions are you referring to? I haven't seen any released specs.

The Gxx 4er Coupé is bigger than its predecessor, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. |

There's no point of reference to determine the size...
