I would be 100% in for the touring. I sold my M2 due to limited utility. I would forgive the stupid grill if they offered the M3 Touring in the states. The only reason I am not going for the RS6 is the price is too high for me. A M3 Touring would likely be perfect in terms of performance, utility, and price. I have zero interest in the hopped up crossovers.

I'd get this to replace my F36 (Which I otherwise intend to drive into the ground). Why?
- 3 kids.
- Already own a family hauler (Q7) and no intention of owning 2 SUV's so X3 etc not an option. RS6/E63 are too big/too expensive and not as chuckable.
- Prefer the hatch (Got the F36 over the F30 for this reason.)
- Available with x-drive which is a must have for me.
- Lastly, Q-car (especially debadged).

If Bmw can find reasons and resources to build a sedan, coupe, gran coupe and a GT in the same 3/4 series platform... then adding a wagon can't be that onerous!

Well hopefully it's not too late and they eventually see the people's feedback on this forum and other social media platforms. In the meantime, I sent emails to BMWBlog and Jalopnik to spread the word even further. I don't have high expectations but at least I tried :

I'd want my M3 in sedan form.

While the enthusiasts want an M wagon, an M340i xDrive would have much broader appeal.

Or one of these...
But it would be nice to be able to choose an option to either get an M4 Coupe, M3 Touring or an X4M.

I think so too. And sedan or coupe for me please, I’d like the lighter versions as dual purpose cars (daily and track). Heck eve those are now too big and heavy for my taste, I’m starting to look in other places.

But, I wish everyone here good luck, and I’ll sign the petition.

I voted

I have also emailed BMWNA

My E46 touring needs a bunk buddy. I will purchase new even if it is only available in auto and AWD.

Problem is the GTs far outsold the wagons in the US. I remember Scott26 saying that the 7 year old X3 and X1s were outselling the F31 by a lot, and the "maligned" 3GT outsold it as well. He said the X2 is a replacement for the 3er wagon and I'm sure that is outselling the wagon by leaps and bounds. I think the disparity was even greater between the 5GT and the E61 when it was sold in the US. So in the US, it's not just wagon vs GT, it's wagon vs whatever SUV BMW spits out to be a wagon replacement. I think BMW is done selling GTs, and those outsold wagons... so not looking good for wagons in the states.

I personally had ZERO interest in an F31 because BMW only offered the 4 cylinder versions in the US (328i/330i and 328d). Similarly, I would have zero interest in a G21 330i as well. However, I would seriously consider M340i Touring and immediately jump on a G81 M3 Touring.

What's the actual number of station wagons sold in the USA as percentage of total cars? Under 1%? Not into wagons would love to see an M3 Touring for those who like them.

I'm not greedy I'd settle for the g21 M340i - xdrive and auto be damned. Just F'kin bring it back to N.America already!

G81 would be epic and a dream daily.

Because, if the G81 is limited to 1000 units world-wide, and (if the US is being reconsidered) at most a few hundred in the US, the per-vehicle costs of DOT clearance etc. are very high (several 10k $)?

I wonder whether those costs are waived for very low production numbers (as the G81 would have in the US), but I don't know that.

Well the 1M production was supposed to be limited to 2700 units and they end up building over 6300(another proof that the marketing department is clueless). This could end up being the same story. Therefore all r&d and certifications cost could be divided on more units. Worst case scenario SUV could pay for the certification process

It's possibly due to the 3 series wagon was only offered in the small engine/lower power output form stateside. The GT was offered in 335 form. The E39 touring was offered as a 540 back in the day, but no 545/550 touring was offered. I agree that a 335/340 touring would be great in addition to the M variant, opposed to only 328i/d or 330.

Lol I think they should at least make it a limited run model, but the downside is that they will have to spend money on crash safety testing.

Looks wise I am assuming G81>G80>G82>G83. As much as I would like to say I would definitely get the G81 over the G80, the advantage of the G81 will likely be practicality and hence only come in AWD and 8AT. https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=197

If this is the case, I would probably lean more towards the G80 in RWD 6MT or maybe even the G82 and turn it into a track rat as with that face I will be less upset about putting it into a wall
