Hi,

I just measured the tread depth of my pz4s. I bought the car used with 17000kms,I’ve had the car for 3months (18600kms). Initially I thought the tires were ok, but I am not pleased with wet surface handling and they are too loud in my opinion. I also have this feeling of the car bouncing to the right when hitting a pothole with right rear tire.

Tire tread measurements in the picture (mm).
Notice: right rear tire is a different model with 280Tw not 300tw.

I am thinking of getting Michelins and having an alignment service done.
What do you think?

Thanks in advance!

Mine lasted 18000 miles. Was glad to get rid of them and get ps4s

I also thought, I’d buy new tires for 2025, but am not pleased with the overall performance, so I might as well just replace them and see what happens.

Careful , we have a Pirelli defense boogeyman in these forums. He might come on here and go crazy

Well, I actually understand it, I had pirellis on my x5 and they were very good, but these tires just don’t really bring the performance I was looking for.

I love PS4S and plan to switch to them from the Pirellis, but has anyone gone from PS4S to Cup 2s? Worth it on a daily assuming I don't mind the cost of lower treadwear?

I was just wondering the same. I was pricing out tires on Costco.com and Cup 2’s were cheaper than the PS4S. I’ve never priced them out before but assumed the cup 2’s were generally more expensive

Cup2s are not at all worth if you're dailying. Just find a good set of Star-spec PS4Ss

P/N from Michelin for the specific tires are fronts 21325 and rears 66946.

There's a lot of PS4s part numbers that come for different manufacturers and also the generic ones, those two specific part numbers are the BMW Star Spec models.

Thank you sir, I'd only get the star ones. Appreciate the PN too.

nicest tires for pictures but I wouldn't get them again. Very slippery under rain and every rocks stick on the tires ^^ Just sandblasting the car haha, once chance it is full ppf.

Now that the PS5s are out are there BWM * Models? Does Michelin stop making previous gen tires? In other words get PS4s quickly before they are gone? Seem to be $100 less per wheel for the 4s vs 5s.

Just wondering. THanks.

I'm sure there's a transition period, but the PS5s don't exist in the 19/20" tire setup these cars have yet.

I daily my m3 here in Orange County. I went from PS4S to Cup2 years ago on my f82 and never looked back. Once you drive the car on Cup 2's you will never want to drive on PS4S, pzeros, etc. ever again.

Just take it slow in the rain. They are way better than R888's in the rain that's for damn sure. Plus, we never get rain here anyway. I was able to drive 20mi in to work last week in the middle of the "atmospheric river" we had. It was sketch lol but doable.

Definitely make the switch to Cup 2's... One important thing to point out is with the PS4S, you will get great grip at any tire temp. With Cups, you could easily spin out and die if they are colder than 80 degrees, so seriously take it easy until they are warmed up. But once they are warm... wow they HOOK. The turning/handling grip is insane, it feels like the car is on railroad tracks taking corners.

Last thing, if you constantly beat on your car you will probably get 8-9k miles out of a set. I beat on my car a lot but still usually manage 10-12k from a set of Cups.

Just go anything Michelin ASAP, the pirellis are crap and should have never been a factory tire in the first place.

I have cup2s and I agree with what ppl have said above. Amazing grip and traction (like next level compared to PS4S) but it’s very finicky to use. If you daily your car and/or live in a place that has inclement weather, I wouldn’t recommend it. The PS4S is more than adequate in most weather conditions. Ppl in the pcar community decided between the PS4S and Cup2 based on how often they track the car (if that helps your decision any)

Based on what evidence? The tyre reviews and the fact that BMW designed them with Pirelli would suggest they are pretty similar. I would only use * marked of either. Of course Euro tyres maybe different- we don’t have mileage guarantees for a start which suggests a softer compound.

On original question I replace winters at 4mm and summer at 3mm.

I could be wrong, but I would bet that BMW designs/tests based on Michelins and has Pirelli fill the supply chain void.

If you take a random set of 100 members on this forum, 99 would say Michelin all day without hesitating. You will never see someone who prefers Pirelli over Michellin ever at a track...

If you aren’t tracking and want to save a bit of money. Price to performance the Continental DSW06+ are amazing.

More tread life, longer lasting compound and very little noticeable performance decrease in xDrive models.

Yup, make sure you get the * BMW specific PS4S or Cup2. Makes a difference.
