So which would you prefer MST or BMS?
Personally I'd remove the carbon filters and trays and run a BMC or BMS drop in on the stock airboxes. 2nd choice probably MST for the heat shields.

The other thing to consider is that the dealer won't give you grief over drop in filters into the stock air box and you can switch back to the stock paper filters for regular service easily. (Not saying swapping out the aftermarket BMS cone setup for stock is that hard but you can do the stock filters in about 10mins).

Thanks Again
I have had both. BMS intakes have slightly larger piping and maybe a little bit louder.

MST has the heat shields and the fit and finish is better on the MST.

Based on the air box inlets but units are going to pull air from the same location. No air from the front grill is fed into the intake. The air inlets stock right behind the headlights which seem like a crazy design.

Both have been dyno'd to make power so just go with the one you think looks better.

I vote for MST. I had BMS on my F82 and it idled funny. The MST ones on my G80 do not idle funny. Hearing another member mention his BMS ones idle funny on his G8X doesnt surprise me.

MST all the way. You get heat shields and it doesnt look like a hack job like the BMS ones do. And the MST ones are PLENTY loud. Even in comfort mode with light throttle, you can totally hear them.

Would the smaller diameter of the MST intakes become a bottleneck for performance?

I did not notice any performance decrease going from BMS to MST

I would not expect any difference either. No data is available for either case

I went with BMS. Sounds the same as my buddies M4 with MST intakes. I have a white M3 with blue interior so these go with my color scheme and picks up the blue accents in the laser lights!

There is a plastic mesh where the carbon filters sit. You can pull off the mesh, or just pull the filters out between the gaps.

Just resurrecting this thread guys. Just want to ask about cleaning/servicing the filters. Are they an oiled filter, so at say 6000/10000 miles, do we need to clean and re-oil them ?. Is there a filter cleaning kit, from the likes of K+N etc ?.

I believe K&N offers a filter cleaning and re-oiling kit.

Thanks Mike,
I suppose my main question is, do they definitely need cleaning, then re-oiling periodically ?.

My suggestion would be to re-oil them once every one to two years, although it's likely, not necessary.
