Lowering, Spacers, and Ride Quality

Hi all,

I told myself I would keep this car as stock as possible, but all these damn bmw insta accounts keep pulling me back in.

I'm considering getting spacers on my car since i love the look of them, but have a few questions:
1. Spacers on OEM ride height - ok or a nono?
2. How do spacers impact ride quality and driveability?

I also am somewhat considering lowering the car, but don't know if I can stomach the sound of these cars scraping:
1. Any reccs on a more modest lowering set-up?
2. How do the lowering set-ups on these cars impact ride quality and driveability? I remember liking it on my old 340 but I died a little inside every time my lip scraped

As always, appreciate any input from ya'll!

1. sure
2. they don't, unless you get 20mm ones then your tires might rub stuff
3. eibach front only springs, the rear already looks good
4. the eibach front springs people say feel basically like stock and maybe lower the front less than an inch

I had the same mindset as you and ended up doing exactly what forcefed is recommending (10mm spacers all around and Eibach front springs).

I haven't installed yet, but I think it should give the OEM+ look many of us are after without compromising drivability.

Here is my MY23 with Eibach front only kit and 15/12 spacers and mudguards. If you space the wheels the mudguards are a really nice touch to help keep debris off the side of the car.

I was in the same boat but now I’m starting to jump ship to these kinds of mods.

I decided to order a set of the 5mm Future Classic spacers from IND to go along with my new set of 1000M wheels I ordered. When looking at the comparison thread IND posted of the various spacers sizes they sell, the 5mm to me made just that small amount of difference to poke the wheels out a tad more but also not too much as to introduce more chances of rocks getting kicked up on the side of the car. Will be my first time doing spacers but I’m confident all should go well.

I’ve also been looking at possibly doing the M Performance HAS setup. I too am not all that keen on lowering but the more I see the photos the more I am convinced it looks the best. I’m leaning towards doing the MP HAS next year just to keep the OEM factor and the fact that with a HAS setup I’ll have the ability to get them adjusted to my liking.

On my M3 Xdrive I have the Front Eibach springs (-18mm) with HR 11mm spacers on 4 corners. I’ve had it for 1000miles. The car stance is more aggressive and balanced with no impact on comfort or drivability. For the money, it is a great way to improve the looks of the car while keeping it comfortable and easy to drive.

12mm spacers and H&R sport springs. Couldn’t be happier with the look of the car. Haven’t felt any difference with the drivability of the car. I daily drive my M3C and no scraps. Just be careful with parking curbs.

That's awesome! My M3C is my daily as well so that's great to know. Mind sharing a side profile pic of your car's current stance?

Ah, tried searching on ride quality with spacers and didn’t find anything which was what I was more interested in. Maybe I missed it!

You didn't find anything because spacers don't effect ride quality.

Question for those of you with experience with spacers living in the midwest/east coast...

What's your approach for the winter if you are going to daily the car through all the snow/muck/salt? Leave them on with some anti-seize? Anything to worry about from a safety standpoint?

Should be fine. On the Macht Schnell spacers, there are relief areas machined where they can be popped off if needed. You should always use a light coat of anti-sieze around the hub ring when installing, especially those areas that see a a lot of exposure to the elements. Bolts are zinc coated for protection as well.

I live in Virginia and am lowered on MSS springs with 15mm all around from Burger Motorsports. Ride quality hasn't changed much. I initially had issues with MSS but it was worked out for the most part. I have a x5 and a 05 330i I drive as a daily so my car will not see snow. Honestly, the more you see a M3 lowered, you may do yours. I am not at the lowest setting because I think the lower you go, it affects your ride quality and I don't like clenching my but every time I go over a speed bump or driveway.

My M4 Comp is lowered with H&R VTF and uses BMS spacers (10mm front, 15mm rear).

Ride quality is the same as stock, in my opinion, but it looks so much better

so does Eibach make a specific front spring only Pro Kit or you guys are buying the full kit and just installing the front springs? I never even thought of this as an option but does it feel normal and balanced using a progressive front spring with the stock rear springs?

car looks sweet, did you do the MSS standard or the Extra Low kit? been reading mixed feedback on both I was considering the standard kit myself. What issues did you have and what needed to be corrected was it the rubber spring pads being an issue?
