But at those high price points, I would imagine someone who can afford a $120k car can afford a $150k car. Likewise, someone who can afford a $150k car can probably afford a $200k car. Price sensitivity isn't as high as the demographic that is shopping in the $30-60k price range where each $10k-15k is substantial.

I can see someone wanting a G8X M3/M4 for practicality if they're living in a space constrained urban area.

But if someone can spend $100k> on a car and lives in a rural or suburban area, I think there's a high probability they probably have another vehicle like an SUV or pickup already. If that's the case, perhaps they don't need the practicality of the G8X M3/M4 and would opt for a Porsche in that price range.
That was my thought process. I have an X3MC and when I received an G80 allocation a year ago I was about to swap my X3MC for it, but realized we needed the extra space for road trips. Then add a G80 in addition to the X, but they’re too similar and too many compromises. That’s when I got the idea to go to something way less practical and a lot more fun - enter the 911. Received an MSRP allocation pretty easily and the rest is history. The X3MC is great for road trip with our 2 year old and the 911 is a riot the second I turn that left handed key.

$50k is a pretty large difference for affordability. Think about the other way, can everyone who can afford a $25k car afford a $75k car?

People in general aspire to the kind of car they want and aren't in just two separate "can afford anything" or "can only afford cheap stuff" category.

I can easily afford any priced G8x, but I would probably be a little concerned about $160k+ on a 911.

I agree the *likelihood* is probably higher, but that's not a good blanket assumption to make for everyone.

The % difference of $50k becomes smaller at higher price points. Also, at higher price points, the % of the purchase price of the car becomes less relative to annual income.

Of course but you're still talking about an extra 33% going from $150 to 200k. That's not nothing to most people.

Absolutely. My 2023 base 6MT without buckets, CCBs, or M Driver's pack was already $94.4k sticker, $106k OTD. If I configure the same car now with those options, the sticker is $110k, so I'd probably be at ~$123k OTD.

And again, that's a base, so without the $8,300 upcharge for a Comp XDrive, or the $1700 DAP package that becomes available with the automatic (though you would save $1300 on the wheels). So you could easily add another ~$10k to my numbers above, even before you start to talk about Port-installed options.
