Are there any companies in the U.S. that can unlock an ECU? If not, why hasn't someone jumped in

None is the US or anywhere else in the world.

Femto is the only company that can unlock the DME, they are currently located in Finland

With all of the engineers and Enthusiasts in the united states, I'm sure someone could replicate the unlock procedure..sadly, I'm not one of them

I doubt anyone else will do it within this generation of car. Maybe when the next M3/4 comes out they will figure it out. I don’t have that kind of patients. By then the next gen will be 600hp so why even bother at that point.

Yea I’d be interested to know how many DMEs they actually unlocked. It’s somewhat limited pool of people doing it.

Pretty much any BMW made after 2020 will need an unlock from Femto and some even have 2 ECUs per vehicle from what I’ve read. Also any Supra after 2020 as well. I would not doubt they have done several 1000 cars for unlock in the past 3 years

V8's have 2 ECUs.
