Glad (or maybe sad rather) to know I'm not the only one. I've also replaced my windshield twice so far. There's definitely something wrong with this car's windshield. No other car I've owned or any of my friends' cars have this issue.

I'll probably look into protection films, but quite disappointed this is an issue.

Well, it’s not on the same car but I went through 3 windshield in a year also, an mdx / 340i / 718 cayman.

It does happen.
I kinda doubt the windshields on the m3 are worse than others, more likely you just got unlucky.

Definitely considering PPF on the entire front end of my car after this. Never had an issue with previous cars I've owned but have noticed a few comments similar to this.

Safelite replaced my windshield earlier this week with BMW glass. I couldn’t be more pleased with the result, and that’s coming from someone who was really worried about it.

Safelite did a poor job replacing a windshield on my X5 and also lost the factory trim of course. So that sucked.

This time, I'm thinking of getting the XTEC windshield PPF.

The windshield PPF apparently blocks as much UV as their tint. So, seems logical that the windshield PPF can be installed in place of 70% tint, correct?

Or, you know… just suck it up and get ppf like the rest of us lol. Eat the rich baby.
Seriously? The one last place I thought I could come to without having to deal with all the political bullshit and finger pointing. Can’t we just keep this forum about cars and take the political shit to a more appropriate forum?

I’m guessing you think windmills kill whales too? 😂 I’m not an environmentalist but I’m also not an idiot. Your solution of putting “fists in faces” will solve all our problems how? Violence seems to be all the “rage” today.

OK. I’m off my soapbox now. Sorry, pet peeve about politics in a car forum.

There should be a class action lawsuit about these windshields.

Well, he got banned. His tenure on here was interesting. And, yes, it would be very nice if we could just talk about cars.

I did not report him so he either did something else or someone else reported him. Was not looking to get him banned he just hit a nerve today.

Very true. Same thing with “Where do you hide your firearm in your xxxxx?” threads on every car forum. They always morph into a 2nd amendment pissing match. Too many other places to debate your political views.

This post makes feel like I’m living on borrowed time. Luckily I haven’t had to replace one in this car. 26K miles. Not trying to be a troll, I have done 3 windshields on my wife’s Volvo in the last 5 years. I rarely drive the M4 on the highway, she is mostly a twisty roads cruiser and I am wondering if there is a correlation. How many of you have suffered a broken windshield driving on a highway vs slower roads?

My theory is at least in the US we are not cleaning our roads often as we use too leading to more debris on our roads.

I’m likely going to jinx myself but in 35 years I have only broken 1 windshield. I know I’m on borrowed time so I have a 0 deductible on my comprehensive for glass and they pay for OEM glass. One thing I was taught was to stay far behind semi trucks while at speed.

I'm putting it on my calendar! You did jinx yourself. Report back by the end of April if you are still living the charmed life

You’ll likely replace it every 1.5 to 2 years. YMMV as dirty wipers can mar the film over time. If your windshield is clean all the time and water beads off, you can go a long time. If you use the wiper fluid to clean gunk or light dust off, be prepared for scratches.

Yes, you can replace your windshield in 5 years with the money spent on film if you’re careless. But the point is to never lose your factory windshield seal, etc. And to avoid the irritating micropitting the soft windshield glass gets.
Yes, I have the windshield PPF. Not sure if it's worth it, but I do like the fact that I can replace it without replacing the windshield itself.

But it scratches, especially if you drive in the rain a lot. The wipers leave marks over time. I understand that there's some special wiper blades to minimize this, but I haven't tried them.

I do like the fact that when a rock hits my windshield, I don't cringe as much as I did without it...it does protect pretty well.

I've got a special talent for keeping the conversation going... And still my original question wasn't answered... haha! (though my PPF installer did answer it for me).
