Has anyone experienced the infotainment screen going black with only BMW in the middle of the screen? Played music via CarPlay, audio worked, but no way to see any of the functionality this screen contains. I tried rebooting iDrive but must’ve been doing it wrong as I couldn’t do so. Shut down and locked the car, restarted, same issue. After leaving it parked for about 30 minutes, screen returned as normal 🤷‍♂️

I understand this has occurred on other BMW models with ID8. Anyone else seen this in the G80?

I had the same situation but doing a reset and then leaving and lockibg the car seemed to resolve. One for dealer soon with other issues.

This just happened to my 2023 M3. What a piece of s#!t. Talk about ruining the best vehicle user interface. I can't control anything climate wise now.

It’s been 58 low, 64 high here on the Southern California coast for about two months now. And we’re it got, that’s absolutely no excuse. “Oh yea, sorry. When it gets hot you get frozen out of your air on controls.” Real brilliant.

Sorry, I’ve been annoyed by iDrive 8 since day one and this just sends me over the edge.

Don't disagree, first thing I did when I got done test driving a G80 last month was feel the back of the screen and it was hot AF! Was probably only 75 outside at the time too.

Holding down the vol button for around 30sec reboots the whole system and should fix it if this occurs again.

Does it still recognize voice commands to control climate?
Also, for anybody that had this happen, do you recall which software you were running, or what updates were installed?
I believe only two updates have been released, 11/2022 and 03/2023.

I'm still on the 11/2022 update(just a few days ago) and have not had this happen......yet.

No idea, I did the reset earlier...worked just a while ago. I haven't and won't use the voice commands...they are annoying to me. I know this is old school, but a button is just so much easier.

This just happened on my brand new 2023 G80 comp with 2,000 miles. Started the car and center screen completely black. restarted car, same thing. Tried holding the volume knob for 30 secs and nothing. Dealer confirmed a failed center display and ordered from Germany.

If this happens, hold volume/power button for 30s until the system reboots.

See if there's a software update available. I haven't had this problem on mine.

I did that and it worked, my carplay still wouldn't load tho. Had to do it again and then it worked...

Bumping this thread as I just dealt with this issue last night. Car was in my driveway after a long day of driving around with my family and unloaded all our bags etc. Went back out to the car and noticed the center screen completely black. Held down the power button for over one minute and nothing. Decided to park the car in the garage and lock the car and went inside my house. Came back 20 minutes later to check on the car and everything worked normally. Hopefully it is just a one time glitch and doesn't require an entire screen replacement.

Haven't had this yet in the '24. However, there are so many little gremlins with the iDrive 8. Comes back on and radio station is different sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't come back on to radio. Every time the software is updated - a complete pain in the ass - the remote start is deactivated. The whole system is idiotic. Just watched a video on the Ineos Grenadier and they were poking fun of all the buttons. I looked on in sheer envy at all those glorious buttons.

Just had this happen to me this morning. Car sat in garage overnight, unlocked. Went to start it this morning, and noticed the right screen stayed black with just the letters BMW.

The latest software update was just installed about a week ago.
Did the soft reset(hold vol for 30'ish seconds), once while parked and once while driving. No change.

I just locked the car and the BMW letters went away on the screen. I'll let it sit locked for the next 6 hours or so and see what happens.
