The front end on both cars is still a struggle for me but the rest of the car isn't bad. The M3 looks a little less aggressive to me and basically just the little brother to the F90 now. It's a little blander than I would've thought.
The Competition seats though in that M4 are absolutely beautiful. Those look incredible!

f80s auto win exterior, g80s auto win interior
i'm sad i don't hate that grill like when i just saw it anymore. hate to admit it's growing on me now and this feeling sucks. and i want that competition cf seats so bad... it's tuning so much towards luxury now, 300lbs extra for same acceleration time vs current gen M4... i'm guessing if a GTS model comes out it'll be a even bigger difference vs F82 M4 vs M4 GTS since it can shave down so much more now.

I'll be selling my 2019 M4 CS before the end of 2021, and I'm coming from an 2016 M4 Competition package. I absolutely love EVERYTHING about the F8x chassis, they're just absolute units in the raw. Great for daily driving and for the occasional track itch, including the CS.
My initial plan was to hold out and purchase a G8x but the looks still haven't grown on me, especially now knowing the wheel base, the weight, and the options I'll definitely be steering clear. I was looking at the M5, and possibly the M8 Gran Coupe as a replacement but I think I'm going to be leaving the BMW ///M family after each vehicle since the E36 ///M lineup. Porsche 992 is really calling me right now, will probably hold out until Q3/Q4 2021 for the GTS, or bite the bullet and spec a Carrera 4S. I can't believe what BMW is doing, I thought it was a joke but they're really releasing the G8x line, they're just absolutely awful. I'm sure there will be 10+ variants soon though, ///M division is in the gutter after the F8x.

Mod should add F8x competition (450bhp) CS(460bhp) in spec comparison, to be fair.

3900lbs
7.2K RPM redline Single piston rear calipers 8 Speed auto And they are marketing it as a track car..? Add in its absolutely massive (my G20 feels like a 5 series), the front grill, and the fact a manual transmission option only comes in base trim.. feels like BMW have really gone off the deep end this time. I guess they will catch the roll racing crowd with 4WD. Those carbon seats look amazing though! I'm sure it will sell well regardless. Certainly looks more 'special' than the F8x. I can predict the reviews now - fantastic cabin, great tech, feels big, numb steering, super flexible engine. All of those could be equally applied to the m340i though.. |

Still don't understand why they couldn't extend the hood to incorporate the superior edge of the grill, the straight line break along the front is ugly as hell and made worse in the new iteration due to the hood design.....and than there's the grill itself

What is with the weight increase?!!! 500lbs?!!! What?!! Damn...
I love the carbon seats and interior, but I would prefer analog gauges up front. Seems like they softened the G8X line due to the backlash from "too much power" in the F8X. From track focused, to 'soft'. Little more power, a lot more weight, and a longer wheel base means a more gentle drift with the same acceleration. A gentleman's car, not a bruiser, more track focused car.... and at that price, I suspect they will hit their target market. On a positive note, I like the M Performance parts. |

The M2 is the new M track car. The M3/4 has clearly grownup. It’s only 6 inches shorter, same width, 2 inches lower in height than an e60 M5.
BMW is filling a void below the M5’s $110k msrp. I’m a little disappointed, I really wanted a screamer of a motor, something special. Will wait for reviews. Last edited by bjcarls; 09-22-2020 at 07:23 PM.. |

Exactly my thought process. 991.1 s 7-speed will have to be the next move.

BMW themselves mix the terminology around and TwinPower turbo sometimes also includes Twin Turbo units (including here with the S58). TwinPower or M TwinPower is just BMW-speak for their turbocharged technology, if you will. The original version of the press release made no specific mention but we have confirmed the S58 in the G8x indeed has two turbochargers. I've updated the information for congruity.

For people wondering about the weight gain, the f80 has a curb weight if 3574 lb, and now manufactures cannot use the lightest configuration as curb weight, they have to use the standard vehicle spec as the curb weight. Similar situation with the 718 gt4 launch when people freak out about the massive weight gain. None the less, the g80 has gain weight due to the latest safety and emissions regulations. Its a shame but i figure the weight gain is around the 150-200 lb instead of the massive 500.

Not to take away from the F80/82 because they were beautiful cars for their time. But the G80/82 make them look so dated now. The G80/82 are so modern almost to the point of being ahead of their time. They are so fresh and a total improvement. These will be classics, especially the M3 version.
