Would you buy an aftermarket bumper/piece to split up the grille?
I'm developing the first aftermarket part that I believe will relieve those who do not like the front end as much. I like it myself but I understand that there will be a demand for such a part.
1. Thoughts on this? 2. Anybody with experience in production/ molding that knows how to proceed? 3. Already designed mockups and started 3d modeling the design. 4. I can start CAD modeling when I get some measurements- I assume I will have to wait for bumpers to be on sale on the BMW dealer websites to buy one and get fitment done. The goal is for it to look as OEM as possible, and a major inspiration for it is that I live in AZ, where there are no front plates. A front plate greatly helps the design so we need alternatives for the markets without it! Thanks for any constructive input |

I woud not buy it... but that's because I like the front plate. I also live in AZ and I can't wait to NOT run a front plate on a G8x. It will look so much cleaner and aggressive than all the photos and videos with the completely out of place front plate.

I wouldnt. If I hate the grill so much I wouldnt buy the car, I think it sets the car apart. More interested in a good design front lip to bring the lower part of the front bumper outwards, I think with a nice front lip, the front bumper wouldnt be bad.

Certainly don’t block/alter any airflow allowed by the oem bumper. If you did, BMW most certainly would void any engine warranty claims I’m guessing.

First, I like the aggressive new design and would not change it. Secondly I would not buy such a product from an upstart designer/supplier.
More importantly to you, because over 75% of BMW customers lease, not sure the actual percentage of M3/M4 customers, and must return the vehicle as purchased, I think your customer base might not be large as you think or as large as necessary justify the costs. |

Anyone who already purchase the G80 probably don't have concern about the grille too much...

This also means that an aftermarket front clip that divides the air between the kidney grill and the lower intake won't require any re-routing of the ducts. Here's a very quick and dirty MSPaint image I did a few months ago: |

The G8X front is very much restricted sharing the headlight with the 4 series.
The headlight flows with 4er's design well. The M3/4 is desperate for the M5 LCI L shaped headlight which connects to the grille like the F80/82. The LCI may see the change like that.

Totally valid criticism. It was a rough go at something different, not necessarily an all out attempt at a final solution that will look pleasing to the majority. If the demand is real, the folks who make a living doing this type of work for the aftermarket will come up with something that ticks the boxes for those who want a more toned down look.

I 1000% would be on the hunt for a high quality aftermarket front bumper cover.
I saw a render where somebody grafted the 8-series upper grill, and tweaked the lower heat exchanger opening (to look designed, and not like a photoshop afterthought) and my response was: Yup. Sold on that. Edit: Found it:

No... so far, every single edit I've seen has not looked better than OEM. Plus, you'll most likely need to change the hood, too.
I'd rather spend the $5k+ this conversion would cost on coilovers and track wheels.

There's no way anyone who designs a replacement bumper cover would do so around the assumption that the hood gets changed. That would be ludicrous.

I agree but if you don't change the hood, you're rather limited on how you can redesign the front to make it better... the inherit shape of the grills coming from the hood design limits what you can do.... like I said, none of the edits have convinced me so far that they can improve upon the front, in my eyes. There are a lot of constraints 2-D renders aren't accounting for.

I would, actually I heard from some aftermarket parts suppliers from China they're 3D modeling some prototypes, but since no car for fitment testing, it won't come so soon.

Buy the car if you like it. If I buy it I wouldn't touch its design, unknown risk on aero, quality and fitment.
That's why i jumped into an end of production f82 cuz I don't like it. I don't know how the g82 drives vs f82 but on paper it seems f80s are at least on par with g80s stock to stock

The design will align perfectly with the lines of the front end and look OEM - also suppliers would be found for the states as I get a G8X myself, fitment and OEM look is most important to me at the moment
Essentially it is a small piece that would go normally where the front plate would go- not affecting aero but improving the design for those who might be on the edge of the G8X. It looks good in the renders, wish I could share it but I will later on. Easy clip on system that could just snap it into place and remove just as easily for lease goers Some might not even notice that an aftermarket part is there- i'm contemplating making it available in 1) gloss black and also 2) OEM body colors Lucky for future buyers I am very OCD- product won't roll out until fitment, functionality, and finish is 100% perfect. The Chinese suppliers might already have theirs near finished but mine will take much longer and it'll be worth waiting for Cheers all for the constructive input |
