Went to Audi to install new tires and the tech chipped my Forgeline AR1 wheel… Also when I picked up the car all 4 tires were under inflated (35psi fronts and 30 rear vs 41 required for all 4).
I told them they are pretty expensive wheels, but looks like they just assigned the job to someone new.

Would you ask them to send the wheel to Forgeline to refinish or just use some black touch up paint to cover?

Thanks

Edit: my current car is Audi RS5 Sportback

The dealership should make it right, which likely just means they would be for a repair to the wheel. Highly unlikely you’d get them to reimburse for a brand new wheel or what looks to be fairly minor damage from the grainy photos.

I’m confused though, you brought your BMW to an Audi dealership to have new wheels mounted? Or is this an Audi you own and are just posting here for advice?

As for the PSI on the tires, 40+ PSI for them sounds way too high. So while the rears might have been a bit low I don’t think 40+ would be correct either. But in the end the PSI on the tires should be of little to no cocern since they weren’t way under inflated or way over inflated to cause damage.

Thanks - I moved to RS5 and was just asking for advice here as I still use this forum.

I will double check later - but pretty sure the door sticker says 41 psi for both front and rear. This is RS5 Sportback with 275/30/20 tires.

Why are you at Audi dealer? You should’ve known better you don’t take your BMW to Audi they probably chipped it on purpose.

OP has an RS5, he wanted advice from us.

The chips are small, I think the dealer should have them fixed by a competent shop or offer to send them to Forgeline for repair.

Ah, ok. All makes a bit more sense now.

If door jamb says 41 for those tires, then I would agree the definitely under inflated them (which is odd since in my experience with the BMWs is that they always over inflat them…by a LOT!) but still shouldn’t be too big of a deal and nothing you can’t easily rectify.

Lots of good wheels repair companies out there so I’m sure you can get them looking like new again pretty easily. Hopefully the dealership will make it right and cover the costs of that repair…and if they don’t, I’d definitely start writing some reviews online and giving them a poor survey with Audi.

If you want your wheels in immaculate conditions after a tire replacement, tell the shop ahead of time so they have the option to refuse to do the work. Some places can certainly do it, but not everyone can.

It's almost unavoidable for a wheel to get damaged each time a tire is replaced. Personally, I'd wait until the cosmetic damage was significant enough and pay for it out of pocket.

It sucks, but I'd probably hit that with some touch up paint and move on. That's probably all their repair guy is going to do anyways.

[QUOTE=Ximian;29752661]

I told them that those are 2k+ per wheel and I want to make sure they won’t be scratched. The service advisor was pretty confident and assured me that they use touch less machines. I paid a premium ($300+ over Costco price for the tires/install) just to avoid this situation…

The dealer called me back today that they are looking into this and have a local rim repair shop. If I go the refinish route I prefer to send the wheel directly to Forgeline to make sure the color matches. The only downside
Is that it will probably take 2-3 weeks…. So maybe touching it up myself makes more sense. There are 3-4 nicks on the edge so the tech probably used a pry-bar to lift the tire or something.

Touch up paint could definitely make that 90% better.

I’d ask the dealer to at least hire a pro repair shop to take care of it. Some shops out there can work some serious magic with repair and paint matching.

The way those spokes protrude out past the wheel lip is kida F’ed for any tire shop.
You should watch how these machines take the tires off.
I’m surprised they only nicked one spoke.

I had this happen on my HRE's $1,500 each and made them give me free Dinan
carbon intake on my E46.

I would ask the dealer to make it right. But i would never go to a dealer to have them install aftermarket wheels and tires, only oem.

On my new G82 I noticed the dealer uses wax on the lip when installing the wheels.

very unfortunate. another option could be for them to comp you for their service charge, touch up yourself, and then get it refinished down the road if it gets worse or you curb the wheel etc
