Turbo Lag or Gear Kickdown ?

So coming from every previous M car since 1990 i am not happy with the kick down or turbo lag i experience in any mode including with MDM off. Unless I am at the required RPM the kickdown or turbo lag is the worst ive experienced on an M car.

Has anyone figured out why the car takes so long to get the turbo spooled or kickdown to correct gear?

I have read a few posts but mainly reference turbo spooling etc , can this be a gearbox issue seeing as first Auto box on the M (3/4)?

Stock turbo's are doing mid 9's in the quarter mile, they are not small, if you want instant spool either downshift(hold left paddle to get to perfect gear) before or switch to a b58 car, those engines spool much quicker since they have a small turbo.

The kickdown can take some time if going from cruising to killmode. But i would disagree with the "turbo lag" comment. if you're in the right gear the car is pretty responsive and certainly not something i would describe as laggy. It may not be as minutely responsive to throttle inputs as other M cars or NA cars, but such is the case for all turbo/auto cars.

given the huge capabilities of the engine, it's incredibly responsive and civil at normal speeds.

There’s a difference between a boost threshold and turbo lag.

I used to think that too, but my car I’m assuming, has adapted to me and kicks down quite fast now and low gear.

Just keep asking it for what you want and it’ll learn who you are.

Or get Xhp and be quite a bit happier with transmission performance.

I hear you but you can't always plan on being in the right gear when you randomly want to plant the accelerator.

XHP is what you are looking for. Gear kickdowns and shifting are way more responsive with the line pressure bump. You can touch the brake pedal and the car will throw you in to the best gear for your speed.

Makes the transmission act more like a DCT.

The pedal is a lot more responsive. I run XHP stage 3 flash on my car.

(xhp is a transmission tune download. Buy the license and a flasher, I use the thor)

When I hold the left paddle it will go down 1 gear but that’s it. Even when I am cruising in 6/7 gear and can go down to 3/4 gear. What am I missing?

I think automatic selection of lowest gear when holding down the paddle is only available in one of the “D” driving modes. Were you trying this in manual or “S” mode?

Yes. I figured it out this morning. Only works when in “D” driving mode.
