What do you think of the system overall? Is it a nice-to-have vs a must-have? Too early to tell? I don't really drive in traffic any more so I don't think I'd get full use out of it. I do take a few road trips every year, wondering if it can eliminate fatigue on after a few hours of Nebraska interstate...
Overall likes it more than the Audi system I just got out of (mainly for the true hands-free traffic jam assist). if you have a daily commute in shtty traffic its a godsend. Since I don't, I categorize it as a nice-to-have. It def takes the edge off road trips.

It's a shame BMW couldn't find the budget to make radar cruise work with the manual. Honda got it to work, you can have all the safety nannies in a Type R!

Jcali86 is right. Its the off centered radar sensor in the lower grill, if that's not there then the car doesn't have the package.

System works well in my limited testing so far and includes the Tesla-esque gimmicks like the graphics of other traffic and self lane changes. The steering wheel is pressure sensitive so you don't necessarily have to move the steering wheel to prove hands-on, pressure alone would suffice for highway cruising.

The low speed traffic jam assist (up to 60kph/~40mph) is the coolest part, does all the work by itself and you can be hands off completely. The infrared camera in the gauge cluster reads your eyes to see if you are looking in the right place.

Did I miss this, or are there green lights on your steering wheel above the volume buttons.

LOL your eyes are right .. yes when the full hands-off traffic jam assist is on the light gars on either side of steering wheel will flash green... They will flash orange if system needs you to take over the wheel again.

Seems unnecessary since your phone is basically a display key. I'm hoping to do the opposite, not carry a key at all

Anyone have feedback on Carplay integration? In my previous BMW's (F90, G05, F82, etc) it was terrible. I say this in comparison to my Ram truck, wife's Volvo along with other vehicles we have had at the same time. As an example if my wife's phone was plugged in, but Carplay was not active, it would flash the Carplay screen every time she got a text message which was hugely distracting. No other Carplay integration handles things this way. There were several other issues around connectivity, etc that we had across all of our BMW's.

So anyone coming from another vehicle brand or have another brand in their garage that can give feedback on how the latest BMW Carplay integration is working?

yea theres the plastic rim around the paddle. I wouldn't say its a sticker tho, it's a more of a matte finish and diff texture from the gloss carbon trims on the steering wheel and the dash.

On the back theres the red rubberized dimples so unless you take it apart you cant verify the individual pieces.

In my previous m340i (same integration), I had absolutely no issues. Worked great! I always plugged in for battery conservation, but wireless works just as well.

android auto for me but imagine carplay is similar.... wireless only which is convenient but I've had some intermittent drops so far, would've liked to see both wired and wireless options

also when smartphone integration is active best not to use the built in spotify app cuz they mess with each other and playback cuts in and out between the bmw spotfiy app (which is spotify connect) and playing via carplay (which is playing off of phone)

What does it mean that you can't connect to it with a wire? So if you use a wired connection using the USB-C or USB port, CarPlay won't work at all?

I put them on my F92 and yeah, they feel pretty cheap, they don't come out as much as I'd like them to either (they're really at your finger tips). It's just a thin carbon inlay, 95% of the piece is plastic, even the rubberized/stippled part isn't as soft as others may describe it to be, just softer than the other crappy plastic. I would say they're only marginally better than the base paddles in the G20,30, etc.

I went through 2 sets of AT paddles before these with IND and basically just gave up on returning different sets on this 3rd attempt. They look pretty at least. The AT competition paddles were good, nice feel and weight, I just didn't like the color of the red paddles since it didn't match my M buttons, and the carbon paddles put me off because the flat sheets wrapped around the mold or whatever they did meant the lines were messy.

Do you have any other brands to compare their Carplay integration? Just curious about the frame of reference.

Am I the only one that is annoyed that a majority of this thread is just questions/comments about ID7, or at least ID7 as it relates to an M car (i.e. m modes, setup, etc.)??? I mean, sure most came from the F8x platform so there's a big change to the UI, but if you sat in almost any BMW (F87 might be the only outlier at this point) after they stopped production on the F80, you would have had these answers.

Ive used it in a couple Jeep models, same experience. I do recommend just using CarPlay for media (vs the built in apps), but that's just my preference.

I have the same issue on spotify. If you set up the app on the car, you just have to access through the app in the idrive and not the carplay app. Then it works okay. I do think that using the app in the idrive makes it easier to have spotify set as a preset button for what that is worth.

What about the lag/delay (reaction time) the previous poster mentioned? Is it an issue for you?
Initially yes. I figured out that you need to hold the phone against the right portion of the handle, adjacent to the circular sensor. It also works much better without a phone case.

Do you have an Apple Watch? My hope is the door is easier to open with the watch.

I've had HUD in a couple of my previous cars, most recent of which being a B9 gen Audi S4. This is the largest size by far. I would say that the "reduced height" option on the G8X HUD would make the size comparable to those other cars.

Yes the nav direction does pull from carplay/android auto apps which is fantastic integration on BMW's part. I wouldn't know apple maps but waze and google maps work fine on Android Auto. You get the arrow and street name, but it's not as comprehensive as the full map display you'd get from the built-in NAV.

The other good use of the larger HUD real estate is the ability to scroll through entire media list (radio stations, spotify playlists etc)

Thank you! That's very insightful. I like bigger huds so this is right up my alley, and that navigation integration is amazing!
