G82-83 Seat comfort

Hi- my first longer trip in my G83 with the non-carbon seats.

Both my passenger and I found the seats pretty uncomfortable.

Do the seats soften at all. Im at 500 miles.

I have a trick back. He does not.

Thanks!

We're all different shapes and sizes. I find it to be very comfortable. Can you describe how it was uncomfortable for you?

Have you had a M car before to compare it to?

The M chassis is much stiffer than the other cars so it could be a case that the over all ride is more harsh.

I definitely don't feel as fresh getting out of the M3 compared to a 7 series for example. The seats are comfortable for me but I definitely feel
It after a long journey

I have the standard seats, andI have taken several long trips - including SC to NJ and a round trip from NJ to FL. I initially noticed that the contour of the seats felt different than any BMW I've owned, particularly in the lumbar area. While I was initially concerned, I don't think about it anymore and find the seats very comfortable.

I found that it took a bit of manipulating to get the seats into a comfortable position. I've taken multiple 2+ hour drives in the car and have found that sweet spot. Not sure they'll ever get 'soft' though. Twenty years old seats in my m5 I recently sold were just as firm.

I just did 1200 miles (in two days) in mine, found them to be comfy (but I also had the same seats in my M8, so maybe I’m used to them).

Do you have seat ventilation? I ask because there has been discussion re: whether that might make the seats less comfortable.

It was in the lower lumbar area. It felt like a different curve. Causing a bit of an arch and an upward pelvic tilt. I put the lumbar support all the way to the bottom and deflated it a bit.

And I do have ventilation. I have an X5 M50. The seats are great.

I drove a 22 X5M and it was fine.

Regardless not as back as my 911 was.

I came from a G05 X5 with luxury seats, before our M4 with standard sport seats. The vehicles' and seats' designs are chalk and cheese: vastly different, but I find the seats very comfortable in their own ways over long stints behind the wheel.

Our M4 doesn't have a moonroof, so I have more headroom than usual (I'm 6'6"), and I adjusted the backrest more vertically than in the M4 than I normally do. That in turn shifts and reduces pressure points, such that the bottom cushion fits me like a glove without extending the thigh support cushion. (In contrast, the F90 M5 seats perpetually gave me 'numb bum' within 90 minutes -- and I've driven several different ones.). I also adjusted the side bolsters inward, which helps me sit straighter (I admit to sometimes slouching to the side in the X5's Barcaloungers).

I didn't reach my ideal seating position immediately, so adjust yours slightly, every so often, and --hopefully -- you'll eventually find a position that's agreeable to you.

Did you notice that you can not recline the seat back if the seat bottom is all the way back or all the way down?

No, I've not noticed. My seat isn't set all the way back in our M4 (unlike our X3). The seat cushion is set for maximum tilt (rear all the way down, front all the way up). In that position the seatback reclines as much or as little as I choose (until touching the rear seat cushion, of course).

I also make sure I'm sitting in the seat as much as I can (butt burrowed into where the back and seat cushions meet), and for long journeys I remove my wallet from my pocket.

Not have a chance to seat in the standard seat. But the carbon seat is comfortable once you’re in it. I’d say it feels more secure and supported than the m340 seat, but with less cushion of course.

I also felt like the standard seats were uncomfortable after my first long 1200 mile trip. This is my first M car and the trip I was taking ironically enough was to Spartanburg to get some track time. My problem was I was not planting my ass all the way back and was sitting in them like an SUV seat. Once I put myself in correctly and adjusted the seat to the new position it was a better. However, since it’s one position, it does get uncomfortable for sitting in one position too long. I have the memory set to change the seat a little bit to help. But seat comfort is probably what I would rate the lowest in this car. I have a little experience in the carbon buckets, but it was on this trip at the performance center and not long enough to make any long term comfort judgement.
