Leather covered transmission tunnel

Hello,

what does it depend on whether the leg side rests on the transmission tunnel are covered with leather or not?

PS. Full leather is not an answer.

Pretty sure it’s solely dependent on the choice of transmission.

I don't think so, mine has the plastic trim piece. I believe it's an aftermarket OEM kit. Pretty sure I have seen them for sale.

If you get full leather for the automatic transmission, you get leather leg/side pads on that. Unfortunately, the MT doesn’t get this even if you get full leather.

I wonder if that's some sort of weirdness with "Individual" leather colors. Any folks with Fjord, Tartufo, or Fiona full leather also have the vinyl knee bolsters?

Yours is leather, I can see the stitching lol.

I believe OP is referring to the knee guards specifically, which he circled in the first picture but is circling that plus the tunnel cover underneath in the 2nd picture.

Full leather + auto is required for leather knee guard, but every single G80 has plastic tunnel coverings underneath, afaik.

My 2024 M3 with full Kyalami Orange leather and automatic has the stitched Sensatec knee bolsters. My wife's 2024 M4 convertible has extended Fiona Red leather and has hard black plastic ones. Interestingly, the 2022 M440 convertible that we traded for the M4 had the stitched Sensatec bolsters. The M4 seems to have been downgraded.

It's not leather. It's stitched black vinyl. It LOOKS vaguely like leather, but it's nowhere near as smooth as, say, the leather on the dash or the door tops. I'd say it's worse than BMW's old Dakota leather.

So if I didn't get full leather it would be worse? Yikes!

I have Tartufo full leather mine is just like urs. I think it is considered leather. It is different material but it’s not plastic. I hear you it’s not soft and smooth but it’s leather.

A lot of what people think is "leather" on the interior of these cars actually isn't. Like I'd be willing to be a LOT of money that even on my full leather individual Ivory interior that the door cards are certainly vinyl.

Automatic cars come with stitched vinyl. The only OEM option is the blue stitched version that comes on the M340i/440i blue interior package cars.

Manual cars use a different center console from a European base model 318i, and only come in plastic.

Both can be wrapped in true leather via Individual Manufaktur, I was denied this via BMW NA.

I don't know what your classification of "looks vaguely like leather but actually isn't" but it's a far cry from the hard scratchy plastic that's below it, was my point. Whether it's fake or not, it's close enough that it's much nicer than what it could be.

leather knee pads with contrast stitch requires full leather package, auto trans , and MY22 or earlier. MY23 and later get sensatec pads with white stitch. Non-full leather or any MT model of any MY get plastic knee pads.

Well it certainly isn't plastic. But it's not the Merino leather that's on the seats or dashboard. So I guess it could be worse, but to me, looks pretty off. I'd like to replace with the alcantara ones but that doesn't go with anything in my interior.
