Na, BMW decided to add them to damn near every M and M-lite vehicle they make. I think they are optional on M340i and maybe even 330i cars w/ M-sport.

I agree with what you said but I think this is true for NON-USA markets. The 6SP M3/4’s I saw in person and listed online don’t have those seatbelts in the USA. That’s why I was surprised to see it in this video.

To be fair nearly every single review of the Civic Type R involves the comments of ugly, hideous, embarrassed to be seen in, etc and it doesn't change the fact that it's the best FWD performance car ever made and universally loved by drivers. At the end of the day if the car is good enough the brilliance always shines through and people come to terms with the styling while having great fun behind the wheel. Those that don't come to terms with the styling simply get something else and that's the case with most cars as there isn't a universal car for everyone.
Early adopters paying top dollar cannot accept any criticism.

I saw the entire video and they opined on the driving feel, manual transmission, engine, power, handling, size/dimensions, brakes, weight, sounds, acceleration, suspension, idrive, touchscreen, looks and price.

If you think they focused on the looks, it's because you chose to focus on it. Can't blame though, it's the elephant in the room.

I really like them. It reminds me of the colored stripes on the seats of my dad's E36 back when I was a kid.

My 6MT doesn't get the striped belts. From what I've seen none of the US 6MTs have them. Kinda sucks, I do like them, but assume you can get them after market if you really want

I don't really have any problems with anything they said in the video other than the fact that Matt seemed to be confused about some of the options and the fact that their "base" M3 had nearly every option possible to make it that price.
They don't like the looks. So what, their opinion on that doesn't matter to me and wouldn't change my mind on ownership one way or the other.

They praised the interior, the way the car drove, the motor, the refinement, the ride and they even like the way it shifted although they noted that the Civic Type R was better.

It sounds like the M3 and M4 have become more like true GT cars and there are some positives with that and some negatives. You get a more comfortable car with more space and a more upscale interior making it more livable on a daily basis but it's also larger and heavier than any previous M3 or M4.

Anyone shopping one of these is going to need to decide what kind of car they want and need. For a fun, luxurious and practical daily the M3 sounds pretty good for my wants and needs. But for someone else who wants more of a pocket rocket or values a smaller and lighter car they will probably want to look elsewhere. Nothing wrong with that!

100%, which is why the G80 is the way to go IMO.

i dont think early adopters mind the looks either as it was well documented through renderings and such what the car would look like long before the official reveal.

This review was well done, and really does expose some of the sloppiness in the design that transcends subjectivity. I regret watching it, because it is hard to dispute or ignore the conclusions. I'll buy one anyway, but BMW loses some luster from this....

You aren't wrong. Nor would you be wrong saying so, like so many have already, about the 8-series coupe. Or the Infiniti Coupe that's about the same size. At this point, I think it may be impossible to avoid with modern safety requirements on design with 2-door cars past a certain length. Or everyone is really lazy. Or they really like Mustangs deep down.

Or something.

obviously he is a designer and should have a more valued opinion than me but i would say his points were almost entirely subjective and weighted mostly from a historical significance perspective. im going to be honest as someone new to the brand thats cross shopping other brands for my next car i really could not care less about the hofmeister kink and he is talking like they committed some capital crime by removing it haha. The rear door implementation transcends subjectivity id say but that was clearly a cost saving method to just reuse the base 3 series doors. for my personal taste the side and rear profiles of the G80 look significantly better than the F80 even after watching his video but thats obviously just my opinion. The front end change i think was mostly to please the marketing folks and not the designer folks so im not surprised by his opinions on that haha the dramatic intro when zoomed in on a front end that i visually really like made me chuckle loll i totally get why people wouldnt like it though

I always found it looks like the result of Mustang humping a Camaro

I definitely like them and would be nice to get them, but would not go outta may way to get them. I’m just thinking that BMW randomly added to some and not others. Just like with some people getting the laser lights without having the exec pack.

This was an observation after watching the video, didn’t mean to derail the convo.

Bogus review he mentions 3850LBS which we all know doesn't relate to the base model which is less and happens to be the one reviewed here. I see countless reviewers provide false data online just like your typical car salesman and mislead the uninformed.

i said this when i posted it in the photos/video sub-foum.. but really looks is just subjective opinion . Ultimately, if you who's dropping close to six figure or the $1500 a month to lease one of these, is ok with the styling, then who cares. If you want to impress others there are other choices, often cheaper (i.e any fca maserati products...) , that'd do the trick better tbh

Other than a short first gear and the high price (which as others pointed, not sure why he called a loaded G82 with even CCB "base"), i dont think he had anything else negative to say about the car.

controversial to a bmw enthusiast who is well versed in brand identity and expected a refreshed F80 look imo. Polls here are not at all representative of what the general public will think. I think a large majority of people will see this car on the street and be absolutely blown away. But someone like a 911 owner will scoff at this more aggressive take when compared to their 'elegant, timeless German design' lol

Completely agree that the car design is more art than science. What is also baffling is that he is talking about the design of the car he hasn't even seen yet. As someone that owned the G80 for about 2 weeks, I can tell you that the more I look at this car the more I like it.
