I'm going to walk back my previous reply. At times that I've used the ASD and engine modes to try to hear/feel a difference I was cruising on a flat highway where there was little load on the engine.

Well, last night I was doing some highway driving while going up a pretty good long grade and maintaining 2k RPMs under load. The drone was at its worst. I figured it was a good opportunity to reevaluate ASD and engine settings to confirm my previous experience. It was long enough and steady enough that I was able to toggle ASD and engine modes several times in various patterns. There was definitely a decrease in drone for both as each was toggled on/off. With both ASD off and in Comfort mode I would estimated a 15%-20% decrease in drone (subjective, of course). It was still quite oppressive, but much more tolerable.

Am I likely to toggle ASD and/or engine settings to reduce drone... probably not. This was while the engine was under load and I don't get as much reduction under normal cruise conditions when the engine isn't under load. I always drive with everything in Sport mode and I'm most comfortable with those settings. But, now, at least, it's a tool in my toolbox.

Anyone has switched from race version to sport ? Or anyone with sport version is experiencing drone noise between 2k to 3k rpm ?

I finally had my Remus race exhaust installed yesterday along with the midpipe and front cat delete pipe. It is completely unbearable to drive with drone and vibration. Something has to be wrong with this design from the factory or mine was installed improperly. The drone is deafening and the back window of the car vibrates so badly. Exhaust valves sound fine, the car from the exterior sounds somewhat fine, but the interior is unbearable. Any suggestions to fix this drone before I take the exhaust off the car?

I have videos available from the interior if anyone wants to listen.

The exhaust is meant to be used with the secondary cats. If you do a cat delete, its not going to sound good since that's not what its designed for

i recommend you put the stock cats back.

But they sell the same system outside of the US with the cat delete pipe. Anyone that has it that I've spoken to said they aren't experiencing the issues that I am sound wise.

I don't understand this. Is the g80 exhaust a complete disaster? I had catless downpipes and full exhaust systems on my previous 340 and f80 m3 and never experienced anything this bad with drone.

Its tricky; my car sounded best with stock downpipes and the active autowerke X-pipe + axle back.

if you are going to remove the resonators and secondary cats, you should keep the downpipes stock

"Thank you" for feedbacks ) . I bought the sport version and the differences is night and day . The car is driveable and without rattles and vibrations inside. And still loud , yet ! With the valves open , you still get little drone , but with valves closed the drone noise is reduced by 90% .

I had a single midpipe with the remus and it was also ear shredding at 2000-2500 rpm. But I have seen others delete their secondaries, much like your setup and have not reported significant drone.

I am sure iviegatron has this setup, if i am not mistaken.

That's correct. My Remus race exhaust has the secondary cats deleted. I had some drone initially, but then I disabled ASD and all was good. I have taken my car on long road trips with different people and not once have they complained about drone.

I highly recommend disabling ASD if you haven't with any aftermarket exhaust setup. It makes a huge difference.

just a note here with drone...the remus has no cross overs whatsoever (no X or no H) aaaaaaaannnndd no resonator where the 2 sound waves from the turbos first meet (the resonator closest to the driver on the car). seems like its just 2 straight pipes from the cats and out the back (with valves wide open of course). Thinking that this is a drone recipe.

In my case, I have the Remus Race axle back, with a PSI midpipe. Although the resonators are removed, it it is an X pipe.
