I can only imagine the insufferable excuses from the Tesla fanboys... "Yeah but those launches cost the m3 ten times more in gas than did our electricity! Just wait until the next software update! Grilles!"

Ugh. Who cares. Tesla fans aren't gonna switch, and I'm sure as hell not getting a Tesla. Nor do I love my M3 more because it's faster than a car with wood for a battery brace.

(Meanwhile, Audi guys: Hey, at least we're faster than a standard S5! Did you know we invented Quattro? Anyone? Is this thing on?)

I agree but I think it's just human nature because every time an M3 loses a race, the thread gets filled with "I couldn't car less about stop light races".

Oh, sure, confirmation bias is always strong. The braking performance on the Model 3P, btw, does seem to be impressive and beat out the M3 (barely) in C/D tests... though I wouldn't be surprised if -- like acceleration -- the M3 would perform more consistently over multiple runs.

I really don't understand the compulsion to sling mud at the 'opposition' like a 5 year old. They both have their merits. You'll enjoy life much more if you learn to appreciate life's variety (in this case, motoring variety) instead of convincing yourself you're always right and the 'other side' must suck (ICE vs. EV). It's called confirmation bias. Life's better if you don't give in to it
As someone who owns both an M2C and a Tesla M3P I can say from experience these types of cars beat each other in different ways. Reality is, unless you're a douche bag, you aren't going to sit at the lights revving your engine in launch control. In the 3 years I owned an M2 and then the 2 years I owned an M2C I've collectively used launch control about 4-5 times. It's useless in the real world. On the streets, the Tesla will be quicker. And, you can drive like an idiot all day and not care about how much it's costing you. It's instant, it isn't anti-social etc. But, the M3 will be more emotional, arguably more fun in the long run and better on the drag strip and track. Learn to find joy in what you have but also joy in that someone else can love a different experience. Personally, I think each of these cars are fantastic in their own right and anyone should be happy to own any of them. |

EDIT: for the record I love car wow videos, as you say, it's just for fun. I love drag race videos etc. I just get tired of the fanboy nonsense. |

Man, that initial punch from the Model 3 is insane!
But, in the end, there can only be one.

Do I prefer BMWs over Teslas? Yes, but not for these shallow 0-60 clickbait tests that proliferate on YouTube videos. This whole forum is a (usually) friendly environment to indulge our interests in these cars, and it's only natural to consider alternatives when buying them. Do some of the comparisons and exchanges get trivial and silly at times? Of course. But that comes with the territory when people are passionate about something. It happens with politics. It happens with sports. It happens with cameras. (Yes, really.) Your point is well-taken, but the virtue signaling isn't really necessary since we're engaging in this banter tongue-in-cheek.

Teslas are quick and positioned themselves as a benchmark for 0-60. I wont be surprised if next gen of all M models will have some sort of hybrid or electric element.
