MN Ice Driving Events - 2023

The Audi club has ice driving events scheduled on Lake Cynthia and it's a ton of fun. Really helped me understand what the PA5 tires are capable of on my RWD G80. Also a great idea for any young drivers in the household.

There are four events, but I recommend planning for the first two while the snow stays soft. If the snow layer ices over, the events are cancelled to avoid car damage. Goes without saying, but if the ice isn't thick enough, the event will be cancelled as well.

Looks like Audi club membership is required this year. $49 per year and each ice driving event is $75.

Ice time trials are held in Wisconsin too in Hustisford on Lake Sinissippi.

I have done these in the past in a WRX, and plan on doing it in the M3.

They are a blast, and very easy on the car.

I highly recommend doing these!

This looks like a lot of fun. Might get a group together in Chicago to drive up to one of these events. Will make it a BMW takeover

Anyone else sign up for this event? I signed up and will be going on 1/14 leaving on 1/13. I have one other person driving his RS3 up there with me on the 13th.

Awesome, that's quite a drive for you.

I was worried about the event being cancelled due to the lack of ice depth, but the next 7-10 days have lows below 0 which will help.

I'm registered and my plan was driving the G80 in the morning and switching to my wife's SUV with proper winter tires for the afternoon.

Was equally worried about the lack of freezing temperatures until I saw the weather. Should be an interesting drive from Chicago. Hopefully there aren’t any snowstorms between Chicago and MN on the way up north.

Nice I might go to one of these depending on how much fun I have in MN.

First event on January 12th is cancelled due to snow and lack of ice. Hopefully it's better for the January 29th event. Last year, only the event at the end of January happened, but hoping for better luck this year.

Got the notification and so disappointed but would rather have a good experience. Unfortunately the only other date I can make is the end of February. Going to try for that one.

Did you attend the event this weekend? If so, how was it? Post and pictures if you have any.

It was cancelled as the ice wasn't deep enough along with uneven due to the warm then freezing temperatures. There are two more events scheduled February. Even if we get enough ice, I think those might be cancelled as well because the snow is very hard or even iced over.

The Wisconsin club's event looks more likely to happen.

Pictures from last year's event are attached. Just the lines from the slalom and track. I may still have video of the course somewhere, I'll add it if I find it.

Thank you for sharing, it looks like it was a great time. What is the Wisconsin club?
