I don't understand how RWD would catch up at high speeds (>115) as all of these silly tests seem to suggest. Can someone explain?

Less frictional loss theoretically lets it start going faster since it doesnt have to drive an extra set of wheels

Assuming both cars could hook equally (think drag slicks) the rwd would be faster the whole time. The awd wins the launch because it is using first gear whereas the rwd uses second since it will incinerate the tires if it used first.

xdrive is a great party trick -- can't wait to get mine. even fast RWD cars just don't feel the same launching. e.g. i launched GT3 back to back with a 911.2 Turbo at PECLA and they're both quick but the AWD really makes your organs shift which is an impressive feat.

It can only be mostly down to weight all else being equal.
