Best for me is the Goldilocks car - F80 - not even on the list - imo best size, best looks, best overall usability with 4 doors, not the best sound lol, some turbo lag yep, and good over all performance with a mean torquey tail happiness. Find ur own best and don't worry about debating on a limited list of 10. Said another way Clown shoe boys need not explain.
If time stood still, the best would be found in the past. Since it doesn't, the best is yet to come.

The success of the M2 CS and M5 CS appears to be rewriting history and recalibrating people's opinion of the CS badge. Also perhaps reflecting a trend in motoring journos to prefer some everyday drivability along with track focused design.
Also interesting the F80 M3 CS never got the love it deserved in general. The M2CS is an awesome car but it's small. The M5CS is awesome car but it's big. The M3 CS fills the sweet spot right in the middle.
Same sentiments here. The F8x CS and even the M4 GTS sort of went under the radar in comparison to the attention the new CS versions are getting.

Personally, I am jealous as the CS variant always ends up in such lists and overshadows majority of poor guys (like me) who bought the pure or comp version of the same car at 75% of the price and >80% of the performance / driving.

Nearly 100% of the same hardware tho. At least with F80/2 the CS experience/performance is relatively easy to replicate with tuning and the right combination of base and comp package parts.

True that. Same applies to the M2 and M5 CS I think. But those cars have become Demi-Gods almost. Some credits to the comp and pure versions where they are derived from is never ever mentioned!

Yeah I think the take away is that BMW has the potential to unlock these cars just by applying the correct tuning all around since the working parts that make the CSs go and "feel" superior are not bespoke, just tuned differently. In my experience in F8X CS, everything is like 10% better which in isolation doesn't seem that significant but as a total package really makes a noticeable difference. Although I do have to say, the biggest improvement hands down is the suspension tuning - that feels like > 10%. But goes to show you that the regular cars are really not far off at all.

I'll say that in the case of the M2CS there is an argument that it has more hardware "upgrades" over a regular M2C. Mainly because M2C hand none to begin with and was sand bagged from the factory with static suspension & neutered engine tuning. And even then, BMW didn't give the M2CS the full F8X CS tune... can't have cannibalism in the product range.

Unless I lower the CS in which case I'd be a low profile chauffeur of Demi-God

The closest you're going to get to a modern M3 is an M2/M2C/M2CS.

Lol

Most of their fleet will look like the last one 10 years from now. This is just so difficult for some of you. Perhaps a different brand of car will help you? I don’t know.

Oh well. There’s always whiskey.
