Driving Assistance Package

Anybody not check the box on this just because the sensor on the front grill kills the look? I'm told I'll have my G82 allocation first thing in January so trying to perfect my build before then.

Had nothing to do with the sensor, had the package on my M8 and didn't use it once.

I didn’t check the box and I have no regrets (yet). Maybe I will in the future but I prefer the look of the grill without it and I figured that this type of car “shouldn’t” be using auto driving. If I’m getting this with the carbon buckets then I should be engaged while driving. If I want to disengage from driving, I should be in a different car.

I’m not ready to get ‘No Regerts’ tattooed on my chest, but it’s worked out so far

I checked the box and use it daily but also commute from Chicago to the burbs daily in bumper to bumper traffic. Couldn’t imagine not having it.

I live in Lemont but my office is in Oakbrook so still have some traffic down Kingery but not I55 type traffic. My wife's X7 has the driving assistance but I haven't taken the time to play around with it yet. Maybe I need to do that before making a final decision.

What year is your X7? I noticed the 2023 MY X7 driving assistance is significantly improved. We had a 2020 X5 prior and the driving assistance was good but had its flaws - some slight ping ponging in the lane, required active pressure on the wheel whereas the new one just requires a light touch (I can literally have the fabric of my pants touching the steering wheel and it'll drive itself forever), etc.

For me personally, I would absolutely spec it on an SUV/family car, but on my own daily it really just depends - if I had a commute with heavy traffic, it's worth it. If not, then I'd skip it. I have it on my m340i right now and I NEVER use it.

I have the drivers assistance package on my X3 and it’s been good for road trips, but that’s the only time I use it. I have no plans to take my M3 on lengthy road trips so I don’t think I’ll miss it. The Jahre 50 didn’t come with it so it wasn’t even an option for me.

Whenever I'm in LA I use the traffic jam assist and find it really useful. Guess it just depends on how much you drive in heavy traffic?

I had it on my M5 and the stop and go traffic was the best part. Other than this I never used it because I like to drive my own cars, especially an M car. DAP and CCB were the only options I didn't check on my M3 order.

I commute to Downers Grove or Naperville and tried using it on the loaner car. It did not persuade me at all, but had it only for some days.

The parking package on the other hand is a must for the cameras and remote functionality.

I have 290 traffic on my way home from work. Live 30 miles away but takes me an hour to get home. Super easy to engage and when you are going under 40mph it completely drives itself without any steering, gas, or brake intervention. I don’t think I could tolerate my commute anymore without it.

Of course it’s a matter of personal taste, but I have no issue with the appearance.
As to the function, I really wouldn’t want to live without it. I don’t ever see to make a trip these days that doesn’t have a period of stop-go traffic and when you get caught on the interstate because some idiot has rolled their Accord into a ball and you have just missed the last exit to avoid the back-up it’s a total sanity saver for the hour+ of creeping along…

I love this feature in my other cars, but I knew I would barely drive this car in traffic. Saved a few bucks and it’s a cleaner grill.

The DAP is game changing. It’s my daily driver so when I get stuck in traffic I let it do it’s thing. The asymmetry did bug me when I ordered it but you don’t notice it as much in person. It’s also smoother on os8 which was a bonus. For me…I couldn’t live without it.

I didn't ocheck that box for two reasons. Didn't like the way it looked and knew a rock would take it out at some point. I believe a few on here have already had theirs hit already. My car is not a daily so it wasn't necessary.

I basically told myself if I wanted driving assistance, I would just go out and get a Tesla. That being said, some of the quality of driving out in the Schaumburg area (I moved here recently) has made me reconsider my position on that lol. I typically try to time my consultations and showings to spend as little time in heavy traffic as possible.

I didn’t check in because I didn’t want it. Had nothing to do with sensor(s).
