based on how quickly the released the M5C, then id bet only a few months later or maybe even at the same time (a la AMG)
It's better if they release them simultaneously MB style since consumers won't be remorseful towards BMW for letting them buy an M car then release a competition version a short while after.
F90 did exactly that and it was a tad unfair on early adopters!
I believe the F90 competition was announced months after the base F90 release.
...yes that is what I'm saying...seems like the F90 Comp came just months after the base car, rather than ZCP style 12-18 months later or simultaneously. Worst scenario for early adopters...
Oh I understand what you mean now. Yeah that's definitely a giant middle finger to early adopters.

I meant announce the two trims simultaneously that way buyers wouldn't need to wait two years for the comp pack/trim. This would also avoid screwing over buyers that want the comp but settled for the base because they thought it would be two years before the release of the comp.

I believe that's what Mercedes does. Releases the 63 and 63s simultaneously. Or at least announces them together.
I'm gonna disagree with this, any enthusiast who was following the M5 release closely enough to A be one of the first to order and B truly care about missing out on the comp pack should have been fully aware the comp pack was going to be a fast follow release. That information was readily available here and on other enthusiast sites. Basically the punishment is for not doing research.

So for anyone wanting an M3 comp pack pay close attention to what bmw and the "leaks" have to say during the lead up to M3 release and it will be easy to make an educated decision.

The only problem I see with this is a lot of people on a "forced" cycle being that your lease is 2-3 years but BMW operates on a 7 year cycle. So you're bound to fall out of the rotation for your ideal car from time to time and this forces you to either take a year off from the brand or settle. At the end of the day it's money lost on BMW's end because they want to be cute with the releases and make it a bigger deal than it is. When all the cars are on the road no one cares about the anticipation they tried to create.

For example, I leased my 4 series last year hoping that I would be able to swap out when the new 4 series is announced. But at this point it looks like I would only be satisfied with an M4. Knowing it'll be released a year later, should I turn in my car and just wait a year, or settle for the M440i? Seems like BMW is forcing that decision. But personally I've just settled in the fact that I'll be keeping my F32 for the long haul and buying it out at lease end.

Next M3 won't be on sale until mid 2020 at the earliest, so thats a pretty long wait. Plus, expect to pay full price, at least until 2021.On the other hand, there should be decent discounts now on the F80, so I would recommend a 2 or 3 year lease on the F80, to expire right around when the G80 is fully available.

Until 2020 then I will get the 18 m3. I kept hearing people say October of this year or early next year. I'm sorry also new so haven't really know how to work it to find the forums of this topic

Render is incorrect. Next gen 3 (and M3) will no longer have a cut line across the hood, as the edge goes all the way down to the grilles similar to the E90. Also, the grilles are much bigger and touching in the middle. And so on.

The rear looks a bit too much like a Lexus but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Either way, I imagine it will overall look more "modern" while still maintaining a true aggressive look.

Updated October 9, 2018

The G80 M3 prototype drops some camouflage as it was spotted today at the Nurburgring. At its current testing stage, it's yet to be fitted with many of its expected M bits - carbon fiber roof, M mirrors, side skirts, hood bump.

The prototype can be seen riding on Pirelli P Zero tires (285/30/20 rear).

I disagree with you that F80 competition release information was available when f80 was launched. I was following the leaks etc but with nothing official you can only guess. Like other said, bmw should do as they did with this M5 and as MB has been doing and announce what's coming. This way I can choose to buy now or wait and not feel that BMW is playing games with us.

But then the steering will feel awkward with AWD, no?

I drove new 911 4s and hated the steering feel. Drove 911 RWD and loved it. Drove the new M5 with AWD and it felt good but it is not a sports car. M3 is. And if pcar is so so in AWD when it comes to steering, what can one expect from a lesser car such as BMW M3....
So be careful what you wish for because you may complain about a dumb steering feel when it is said and done....

Awesome! Though not much new to see. This go 'round I'm more excited to see the G82/3 as our plan is to buy one of those to go alongside the F80. Can't wait for an epic Euro Delivery in 2020/1 to pick up our new baby

I own new M5 and I love it!
Living in Wisconsin helps :-)
I had always problem putting power down on F80 and F82cp when is colder or rain.
This M5 is great in this perspective
I also have M240xi and I love this little nimble thing

Everybody's doing it now for the E-parking brake. I guess they could've gone with a dual caliper setup (fixed for braking, floating for parking brake) like the Jaguar F-type, but $ margins...
