Will This Nitto Setup Work?

I'm a bit of a dummy when it comes to wheels & tires (and most other things too..) so I want to ask you folks before I commit to anything. Will this combo work? Car is an G82 xDrive. Stock height for now but might install my KW HAS, not sure yet

Apex VS-5RS and Nitto NT555R2's
Front 19x10.0" ET12, 275/40
Rear 19x11.0" ET22, 305/35

I read here that for xdrive cars the front/rear need to be within 1% overall diameter of each other. Is that true? The specs from Nitto show them to be just barely within that (27.68" & 27.44")

Any problems with this? I appreciate any wisdom

The 1% rule is true.

Seems that would work according to just that. Not sure you need to go that wild though with the specs you listed.

I was a little nervous about running 285 up front with a closer to flush wheel offset. Tires just came in and they do look pretty chunky, wouldn’t be surprised if the 275s rub too. I ordered them from Walmart because they’ll give me 90 days to return them (and wheels won’t be here until April), but I think I’ll give them a shot

Was a tough choice but I’m going for the gold. Can’t go wrong with any of them I think, bronze looks great too. You’re also on the Nittos? How’s your experience been? Hopefully everything fits nicely. Need to get off the Pirellis ASAP. Running a stg 2 E55 tune and things are just a little too squirrelly, trying to not end up in a ditch

I’m pretty sure the max us xdrive a can run in the rear is 295 because the front can’t fit more than 285, the 1% rule is based off the width of tire on the ground rather than diameter. Ik Limegrntaln has gone into depth regarding this topic prior too.

Be careful, don’t wanna f up your diff

It's hard to say if there is going to be an issue. On the stock setup, the rear tires rotate 4 turns slower per mile, than the front, with this setup, the rears rotate 7 turn more, than the front. You'll find out for sure if you get an xDrive light. Then the car will just go into limp mode, and you can just tow it home.

Thanks for the warnings. I did as much digging on the topic as I could stomach and there seems to be some gray area. On the one hand, there was a guy here that had issues running over 3% difference in a g8x iirc. On the other, BMW factory tire sizes for some other xdrive models go beyond 1% (Alpina B3 and M235xi at 1.2%, B4 is -1.1%...). Supposedly there is some older Alpina running 1.9% but I didn't confirm that. Oddly, some guy reached out to the 'Geniuses' for confirmation on the subject, and they told him that all tires should be within 2mm diameter of each other. I'm not great at math but I think that works out to be less than 0.3% at these sizes. Of course none if this is mentioned in the manual

Frankly I'm more confused than when I started reading. I suppose if everything fits, I'll drive gingerly for a while, and abandon ship if I hear/feel anything unusual.

The front can most definitely fit wider than 285’s if you’re upgrading rims.
I’m running 305 square with no issues.

I guess it possible to do it with the exact perfect offsets and tire combination, but, how much fender liner work needed to be done? And are we talking RWD or xDrive? The xDrive cars rub the fender liners with much less of an aggressive tire combination. My 285/30/20 front tires, rub the dogshit out of the front liners with 10mm spacers and even tap the liner, without spacers at all. +20 offset.

I guess I was speaking relative to stock rims, but since he’s upgrading them maybe he can run 305 squared

Could you provide some pics of your setup?

Why not do 275 40 20 in front and 315 35 20 in rear. 0% height difference. 0 revs per mile diff. Xdrive Friendly. Concern for xdrive Has nothing to do with width.

Hey Fellas,

Reviving this old thread as I'm looking for some honest feedback on the Nitto R2's. Are they dailiable? Is there a real concern able running different tires front and rear (xdrive)?

I'm replacing my Cup2's and jumped on a deal on some takeoff Pzeros (I know, not the preferred tire of choice). I'm currently stage 2 93 OTS and looking to run E50 on a OTS flex fuel map (for now).

I'm debating on giving the Pzero's a shot with the worst case replacing the rears with the R2's if I can't hook on the Pzero's (a lot of spin during shifts 3 or 4, etc.).

Alternatively, I sell the take off Pzeros and pickup a set of PS4S though this would be the higher cost option by far and I'm not sure if the PS4S would eliminate any traction issues.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
