I believe they redesigned the adjustable cups on the front so it can go lower.

XPH has the KW kits in stock. They were ready to ship my order today, but I switched to MSS. If you're still interested in KWs then hit up Mike.

What made you choose mss over kw?

I'm planning on doing the install myself. I've mostly watched install videos of MSS to understand the procedure since KW videos are limited. Plus the installation instructions are not too clear in their installation guide. Anywho, I was watching one KW video (see below, time stamp 3:18) and I got a glimpse of one of the pieces I was unsure of and looks like you have to take the entire strut out and hammer the old piece out to install the new supplied part. I wanted something which was easily reversible and MSS delivers on that front. MSS is super easy to install, you just have to replace the springs. Also heard great reviews. I'm sold.

Spring perch replacement is simple, KW has been doing this way for (3) M-generations now (E9x, F8x, G8x as well as other M-models) - the perch is slip-fitted on the strut recess and takes place of the old one. This takes only a small amount of additional time compared to a spring install - not a problem for any experienced installer.

Both KW & BMW M-Performance also uses fixed replacement threaded perches. Why? It makes for easier adjustments as the perches are fixed into position with no chance of rotation.

The X3/X4 version of the MSS kit has so much preload on it, it was near impossible to adjust without disassembling. There's a lengthy thread about that in the G05 forums with the issues they were having. DO keep in mind you'll be going back in there again once the MSS update is released if deciding to install right away, or eliminate the helper spring as others have done - but you'll lose the adjustability in the front due to removing the adjustment collar and rubber insulator. Not a problem if you're DIY, but for others - this will result in additional $$/labor.

There's no right or wrong decision here, but just know 100% up front what you're getting into before installing.

Trying to adjust a adjustment collar that's sandwiched in between 2 springs (MSS style) while fully loaded is very difficult without unloading the springs and/or disassembling the strut assembly to make the desired adjustment.

Keep in mind you'll be going back in there again once the MSS update is released if deciding to install right away, or eliminate the helper spring as others have done - but you'll lose the adjustability in the front. How easy is it to take out the spring perch?

On the MSS I thought the helper spring was only in the rear. Am I wrong?

What does the MSS update entail? Is the update for the front only?

Helper spring is only on rear of MSS on G8x. The front spring perches can be removed with a mallet. Reworded my above reply to explain things a bit differently and overview the install of each.

No idea what the update kit will entail, we don't carry MSS.

I ordered the KW HAS kit from AUTOcouture about 2 weeks ago and it was delivered within 3 days. May not still be the case, but may want to check there if you are still interested.

How often are people adjusting their springs? I thought the whole point of the HAS kits are so you can get your desirable height by setting it once and you're done.

That's up to the end user. Most will be 1-2 times, others can go several times depending on wheel/tire configurations.

Also - later down the road, they will be on the used market once leases end and/or new generation M3/M4 is released. Previous generation HAS kits live a long life even after production ends.

Looks like the KWs come with new bump stops. Assuming the rear shocks come out completely for the job?

Heres my G80 lowered on KW has. Havent driven it much since it was done. Nj weather sucking right now. But rides just like stock minus the pesky wheel gap. I had the same kit on my F80. Loved it.

My contact says the same and he is one of the top KW retailers, its just a universal delay out there.

Thats I went MSS for now and am ok with it because the ride quality is excellent but the initial front end drop is pending a settling amount.
Hi Vic55,

Where did you land on this? Did you stay with MSS or did you replace them with KW?

I saw a previous post (earlier on this thread) where you mentioned that KW kits also have helper springs, has this been confirmed for the G80 KW kits?

Are the helper springs similar to the 911 GTS setup?

What's your recommendation now that you've tested both (MSS in your G80 and KW in all your other cars)?

Would greatly appreciate your insights.

Oh just saw this, there are quite a few threads where I posted what I have and why I didnt go with KW.

Quickly here:

Im on MSS and have no issues and no regrets; its the same set Ive used on two G80 cars.

I didnt get KW because when I lowered my first G80 KW was 6 months out and when I got my 2nd, I just moved the parts over.

There are no true helper springs (aka tender springs) on KW. The MSS has a true set up which optically is like my GTS.

Ive never owned KW on a G80 but I have them on my GTS and M8 and they are great as well. There are alot of posts on about pro's and cons of both setups but Im very happy with my MSS.

There's no right or wrong decision here, but just know 100% up front what you're getting into before installing.

I've had the lowering issue with the MSS the pre-load makes it extremely difficult to rotate the height adjusting collars without disassembling. Apart from that, they ride great, while improving handling dynamics, most noticeably the lateral roll was reduced when in a slalom style manoeuvre.
